Just had some fun making more shaker cards.  I forgot how much fun these cards are to make, and shake ... shake ... shake.

I know I mentioned this recently but I will say it again it has been years since I've made shaker cards!  This time around I used clear envelopes to hold the holeless beads for the shaker part of my cards.  The green card is an A2 card, and the white one is an A6 card.  Look in this post to see how to use clear envelopes for the shaker card.  If you type shaker in the search bar you will find more shaker card ideas I've made over the years.

Red & Green opposites

Altenew challenge with Jen Rzasa opposite colors continued an extra week, so I decided to do another color scheme.

I had fun doing red and green for opposite colors.  This small, but mighty airplane stamp/die set is easy to assemble, and stamp.  For the say hi card, I even used Altenew glitter cardstocks.  Can you believe I had red/green glitter cardstocks?!?!?!?  It just fell into place when I saw the glitter cardstocks.  I will even admit ..... it's been so long since I made a shaker card ..... when I was assembling this card I forgot the window plastic to hold in the holess beads!!!!! Too funny!  Oh well, guess that just means I need to make more shakers so I don't forget. See more on shaker cards here, here, and here.  Just call up shakers cards to see more.

Ghoul shaker card

 Ghoul shaker card!

stamps used:  Catherine Pooler Squad Ghouls stamp/die set, Unity stamp set Happy Halloween

It is always fun to bring back old favorites like shaker cards!  The best part is this is a new an improved shaker card, because I used a clear envelope for the shaker bits.  No more using a kraft knife to cut into foam board!  so no more fingers with bandaids from cuts.  Those kraft knives can be sharp.  

The background was blended with a couple of orange ink pads. Next I stamped a couple of the small images from the stamp set to make a background.  Here is a tip that I do:  put a strip of tear and tape on the bottom back of the stamp card to hold it to the clear envelope.  Can you figure out why I did this?  I did this so the shaker bits stay in front of the stamped card.  You just need to slide the card in carefully, so it sticks only to the bottom inside of the clear envelope. Next add shaker bits, then seal up the clear envelope, and adhere it to black layer.  The black layer to an A2 white top folding card, then shake away! I stamped and die cut the ghoul...he is color blended with blue ink, blue gel pen on his spots, white gel pen on his teeth.  And of course, he needs google eyes!

I do like to make shaker cards, and have been for years.  These shaker cards are so easy to make, because I used clear envelopes.  In the "old days" we made shaker cards, by cutting out foam core boards with craft knives.  I sliced my fingers many a time with those sharp craft knives!  Then we progressed to using foam mounting tape to make pockets to fill.  Easier, but if you left any space between the strips of foam mounting tape, all the things inside the shaker would spill out.

Bell jar shaker cards

Shaker cards have been around for years in the stamping world.  I can't remember when I first made one ... but ... I do remember back in the day we used foam core, and kraft knives!  I had a lot of cuts from using kraft knives back then.  Now we use foam mounting tape to form the pocket for the beads and things that shake.  Also now there are lots and lots of dies to use for the openings...so much easier.

Above is a pic of shaker card with foam mounting tape for the pocket to hold all the shaker materials.  Still needs a saying but I will do that before I send it out.

Above is a pic of shaker before the top card with window plastic behind the opening is adhered.  You can see the foam tape forming the pocket to hold all the beads, and sequins that will shaker in the card.  Best tip I can give you is make sure all the foam tape strips are touching ... if there is any little spot that isn't touching the beads and such will spill out when the finished card shakes.  Another tip is remember to adhere window plastic (acetate) behind the front panel with the opening or again everything will shake out.  Ask me how I know ... LOL!

I also wanted to show you, that you can use clear envelopes to hold all the beads, and such instead of making a pocket with foam tape.

However you make your shaker cards ... I'm sure they will give lots of pleasure to whoever receives it.

Never-ending shaker cards

Above shakers were made using clear envelopes, that fit the front of a card ... that is the reason for calling them never-ending because they fit end to end on the front of a card.  Open a clear envelope add a piece of pattern paper or a card that is stamped.  Pour in some sequins and no hole beads then seal the envelope, and tape to front of card.  Now you can shake away!
I've been making shaker cards for years, in fact it was one of the first interactive cards I learned how to make.  Back in the day we would make shaker cards cutting out foam core with a kraft knife.  You can see here with a silent video or here's another look at shaker cards.  To see more shakers I have made just type shaker in the search box in the side bar.

Rainy day shakers

I have been making shakers for years but the fairly new way to make shakers is with vellum.  Here I have two cards make with vellum and one a more traditional using foam mounting tape.  I also went out of my comfort zone by making a 5" x 7" and 4 1/4" x 6 1/2" size cards.  The reason being is because it was the way the vellum pieces I had sized out.  No problem, though, because I can make my own envelopes with my envelope maker to fit them.

basic vellum card instructions:

1.  lightly score the vellum on all four sides approximately 1/4". when done this will form pocket.

2.  tape three sides down to a white card but leave one open in order to fill with sequence and small no hole beads.

3. once filled adhere to folded card.

basic foam mounting tape card instructions:

1.  do all your stamping and die cutting first.

2.  with foam mounting tape create a well or pocket and fill with sequence and no hole beads.

3.  once filled adhere to another piece of cardstock or folded card itself.

This BIG butterfly is just so much fun to make cards with even if I'm making bigger cards than I normally do.  This time I made a bunch of shaker cards ... easy to create shakers when you have the dies for the butterfly.

See thru camera

stamps used:  SU Capture the good stamp set

I tried my hand at a see thru shaker card!  what fun!  This type of shaker seems to be the fad right now, so I decided to jump on the band wagon.  Basically you create it the same as a regular shaker card except the opening goes all the way thru the card.

I have a tip on how I created my see thru shaker.

1.  Place together two A2 cards.

2.  Place the die on the front of the cards and run thru Big Shot or any machine you may own.

3.  Cut one of the A2 cards in half to use for the inside and back of the card.

The most important thing to remember when making this type of card is don't forget the acetate between the cards for the shaker.  Ask how I know!?!?!?!?! yes, I forgot and all the sequins/beads fell out.  LOL!  I plan on making more of these cards, in fact I pulled out an old steel rule die I have that I think will work.  Will try it soon.

Butterfly shakers with video

Sometimes it is fun to bring back the old and this is one of those things.   Shaker card! You can see in the picture above the front and inside of the card.  Front of the card is what I call collage stamping but the inside is a fun motion stamping.  Motion stamping is easy, you stamp the image once, then without re-inking just stamp second, and third generation to get the feel of motion!
I learned  this type of card too many years ago to remember, in fact, I think it was one of the first movable style of cards I did learn way back when.  Now it is a lot easier to make with all the dies for cutting out the windows instead of those horrible craft knives .... I cut myself all the time with them.  Plus back then we used to make shakers out of foam core boards which were a pain to cut through.  Now we use cardstock with foam mounting tape or even kids' foam sheets.

Is it too early for bats?

Couldn't resist putting ink to this adorable Cuddlebug Bat in three different ways for Unity monthly challenge.

Card #1

Stamped bat with copper ink onto bubble wrap background.  you can see details here on this post.  Wink of Stella was added to this card.  I will admit that I did a little rubber surgery to cut off the stars and moon off the bat because I wanted them separate.  

Tag

Stamped the bat with SU Fig ink pad then did a little watercoloring with the same ink.  White embossed the hello with white embossing powder onto a piece of SU Fig cardstock.  Adhered the embossed saying strip across the tag.

Card #2

This is a shaker card with Tulle for the window instead of clear plastic.  Stamped, colored the bat with blue ink then fussy cut him out and glued him to the card.  Stamped the saying onto scrap of white cardstock then punched it out.  Punched out scrap of black and same light blue cardstock as the note card then adhered to the card.  The black bats are a SU paper punch.  Added Wink of Stella to the bat wings.

Is it too early for bats???

Wizard mini shakers!

Yes, today I am continuing with some more wizard fun!  Today it's mini shaker cards.

stamps used:  Unity stamp co. Something magical stamp set

This is a shaker and a z-fold card all in one ... plus it is mini size!  perfect for these small images.  

measurements: 

base card - 6" x 4 1/4"

strip - 6" x 3/4"

front layers - 2 3/8" x 3 3/4" and 2 1/8" x 3 5/8"

basic instructions:

For a basic z-fold card you fold the base card in half then in half again.  It will be a mountain fold and valley fold.  For this card the strip is folded the same way and this will be taped to card with the long end to the front panel and the short taped to the inside back.  BUT before taping the strip to card you need to create the shaker part of the card.  

Shaker card - die cut or cut out a section.  tape window sheet to back side of card with opening.  add foam tape to the back of the window sheet to form a closed box so when you add the sequins or beads inside it they will not fall out.  Another words the foam mounting tape should all be touching with no spaces.  remove the backing strips of the foam mounting tape and tape the stamped panel directly to the foam mounting tape to secure all the sequins inside the shaker.  That's it for the shaker card section ... you can go to my you-tube channel to see a video how to make a shaker for a visual tutorial.

GIU day 1 - shaker card with tip video

Today is my first day as guest blogger for Growing in Unity (GIU for short) and I'm so happy to be able to show off Unity stamps for you here all week.  

Today I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and show you how to make a shaker card.  Shaker cards have been around for years but in the past we used to use foam board and craft knives!  no more! Now a days we use dies so no more little slices on our fingers from those craft knives.  Keep reading to bottom of post for video and more details how you can win some stamps.

Christmas shakers

Yes, I made a few shakers this year even though my husband fondly said, "shakers are so 1960!"  but I replied, "they are making a come back!"  it is true I haven't made a shaker in years so it was fun to bring back an oldie but goodie.  Since it has been so long since I made a shaker I did forget a few of the tricks ... tips ... so needless to say the first one was not a keeper.  teeheeheeee  Once I got back into the swing of making them it all came back to me.  I'm sure they will be appreciated by the precipitants.

I made these shaker cards for my local card swap group but made several extra so I could send out to my family and friends.  I've been making shaker cards for years and years.  The blue color scheme is normal for fish but I also like to do the abnormal so that is why the brown with yellow color scheme.  there are lots of instructions and you tube videos out there showing how to create shakers but if you would like one from me just ask.

Audition post for Sin City stamps

I'm applying for a spot on Sin City stamps co.  They want to see at least five examples of my work/art past and present so I'm going to show my favorites over the past year with links to original posts.

shaving cream technique uses foam shaving cream, re-inkers, combs for stirring and a lot of imagination.

this is a fun technique with everyday supplies.  you can see more here on this post and here including a video showing and explaining how I created these fun backgrounds.

stamping on kraft cardstock and coloring with Prisma color pencils.  I like to use lots of colors when coloring with my Prisma color pencils to create a feeling in the card.

pop-up card - there are all kinds of pop up cards and I like to try them all.

check out this simple pop up  I did a few years ago.  another ice day pop up card.

using stipple brushes or blending tools make beautiful backgrounds.  stipple brushes and blending tools are "tools" to make all kinds of different backgrounds and manipulate all types of inks.

In the seahorse card I used stipple brushes for the blue watery background.  You can see more on this card here.   check these Halloween cards in this post to see how I blended all the colors in the background and please watch the video.

shaker cards are fun and interactive cards.  you can fill them with just about anything from glitter, sequins, charms and even candy!

there are so many styles of sliders as in this example, it uses pennies for weight to make the image spin.  there is also what I call the old fashion slider in which you use a ribbon to pull the image across the card.

snowmen!

I do like snowmen.....stamps that is not the real thing because then it means it's winter and we could very possibly be snowed in!  paper snowmen are much more fun and last a lot longer then the real thing.  here I have snowman in snow globe shaker card and a snowman hanging out on a tag.  which is your favorite ..... shaker cards or tags?

February local card swap

 We had another fun card swap get together over at Maggie's Place.  we are a fun and talented bunch of ladies....look at all our cards!  a mixture of die cuts, creative pocket, square quilting and even a waterfall card!  you can see my card here .  I posted it earlier because I had so much fun making a shaker element card.  Our next monthly card swap is coming up soon so I better get my act together and make my cards.  Have them started .... at least have the backgrounds all done just have to stamp them.  did a fun background technique but I'll keep it a secret until I finish them and we get together.  Now I wanted to show you a card from January's card swap that was delivered after the meeting

what's alien-ing you?

It's been a crazy week with mother nature around here and it is going to continue tonight according to the forecasts.  Here is a fun shaker card I made for an upcoming card swap.  shakers are fun to make and fun to shake, shake, shake!  this is what I call an element shaker because only the circle part is the shaker not the whole card.  clear as mud, right?

Shake it up!

Shaker cards have been around for a long time but I think they are still fun!  you just can't help shaking it up!  On this card I did what I call a shaker element for the card because it's not a full shaker card.  Only problem with a shaker card sometimes you just have to get out that old exacto knife and this is one of those times.  not my favorite tool but it is useful for this style shaker....I do like it better when I can use one of my die cuts for the cut out but just didn't work out this time so did it the old fashion way!
