This week Jen Rzasa Altenew Tuesday #altenewchallengelive is to make one layer cards, or projects.

supplies used:  Altenew A splash of Color, Dovetail Butterflies, Dynamic Duo: Hanging Houseplants stencils-stamps set

As you can see I create two cards with these stamp, and stencils.  Believe it or not my favorite of these two cards is the Hanging plants!  I'm not usually a full of color gal but with these potted plants ... it just worked.  The butterfly with the splats behind it is effective for this challenge since ... yes ... all is flat!  I did add some color with my color pencils.

This butterfly image is still a favorite of mine.  It is so big that you can do so many different style stampings with it.

stamps/supplies used:  Unity stamp co. Seraphim wings stamp set, Waffle Flower A2 postage die

I die cut Waffle flower co. postage die then stamped the big Seraphim wings (butterfly image) on it.  I did some select color blending over the butterfly just to add colors.  Next I stamped some postage style images, and numbers on the postage die.  Layered the finished stamped postage die onto a butterscotch card layer, then onto a black A2 folded card.  You will see more of these faux postage style cards in the future.

stamps/dies used:  Unity stamp co. Seraphim Wings, Arches dies, Scallop/rectangle dies

Basic instructions:  

1.  Mask off section on card with copy paper.

2.  Blend colors between the masked section.  For the above card I did the colors in three sections.  When done blending colors the first time, go over it again to smooth out the colors.

3.  remove the masks.  Stamp image with black ink on the card leaving some of the image over the blended colors.

stamps used:  Unity stamp co. Coffee Doodle Doo, Scallop/rectangle dies, Stencil by Tim Holtz Splatters

Basic instructions:

1.  Use deckle edge ruler to create ripped looking edges on copy paper. Place the ripped copy pieces on the card.

2.  Repeat step 2 from above.

3.  Leave masks on card.  Place stencil over masked section and stencil colors over stencil.

4.  Remove stencil and masks.

5.  Stamp Doodle doo bird, and saying with black ink.

4. Layer all layers on A2 card (4 1/4" x 5 1/2").

More Butterfly split negatives

 More Butterfly split negatives

I tell you, I just can't get enough of this split negative technique.  This Seraphim wings stamp from Unity stamp co. just works so well with this technique.

stamp/supplies used:  Unity Seraphim wings, Catherine Pooler inks

Instructions:

1.  Cut one piece of white cardstock and one piece of colored cardstock the same size. 

2.  Place cardstock in Misti stamping positioner.  Stamp butterfly with color inks on white cardstock.  On colored cardstock use tone on tone color.

3.  Cut each stamped butterfly cards in half or a bit more or less.  You will have two pieces of stamped white card, and colored stamped card.  

4.  Add glue to a scrap piece of cardstock, then glue one of the pieces of cards with butterfly to half of it.  Match up the opposite butterfly to the one that is glued to the scrap piece of cardstock.  You should have a white card, and a colored card together to form the split negative image.

5. Next what I like to do is die cut out the split negative butterfly with a die shape.  In this case I used Unity stamp co. deckle edge rectangles die set.  

6.  Adhere split negative piece to A2 card.

As you can see I cannot stop making this type of card.  Maybe I should find another image.  What do you think?

Two for one card

stamp used:  Unity stamp co. Seraphim wings, scallop die set (unity), Hero Arts postage die set
Instructions:

On a piece of 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" white cardstock I blended a colors of inks.  Then I stamped the butterfly over the blended colors. I cut the butterfly in half and then cut the stamped piece in half.  Next I die cut each half of butterfly with postage die.  Layered the postage pieces onto black layer then onto colored A2 card.

Simple but effective ... don't you think?

Dovetail Butterflies

stamps used:  Altenew Dovetail butterflies stamp/die set and A splash of color stamp set

I had fun with these card because I used Lawn Fawn plaid stencils, and Hero Arts nested frame postage dies along with Dovetail butterflies.

basic instructions:

1.  make plaid backgrounds using Lawn Fawn plaid stencils.  Depending if you use one or both of the stencils together will create unique backgrounds.  Example: the green background used only one of the stencils, but the other two cards used both plaid stencils.

2.  Layers are die cut with either Hero Arts nesting rectangles or postage dies.

3.  stamp and die cut the Altenew dovetail butterflies then layer onto the cards.

4.  stamp sayings from Altenew A splash of color stamp set with black ink.

Shake, shake that butterfly!

This BIG butterfly is just so much fun to make cards with even if I'm making bigger cards than I normally do.  This time I made a bunch of shaker cards ... easy to create shakers when you have the dies for the butterfly.

Split Butterfly wings

stamps used:  Catherine Pooler Wings of joy stamp set/dies

This is a BIG butterfly that measures approximately 5 1/2" x 3 1/2".  When I use the full butterfly, I need to make what I call a medium card, which is a card size of 6 1/4" x 4 1/2".  I'm normally a A2 card gal, which 5 1/2" x 4 1/4".  Not only will this butterfly fit across an A2 card with ease; there are dies so I don't have to fussy cut it out.  For this card I stamped and die cut a bunch of the butterflies.  Next, lay out an open card ... unfolded.  mark the center of the unfolded card.  This is where you adhere your stamped images, in this case the butterflies.  You can overlap the butterflies or not as you see in my samples.  When you have them all adhered the way you like .... cut the card in half.  Now you have two card fronts to adhere to your base cards.

stamps used:  Unity stamp co.

A simple card but I like it and it is effective for what I was going for in this card.  I stamped the big flower background in a light color then over stamped it with the butterfly ..... in black ink so she would really stand out.  The saying is stamped on a separate piece of cardstock .... all layers are backed with black cardstock.  Oh yeah, there is some black and white baker's twine behind the saying just for fun.

Art Journal week #38 Abundance and #39 Changing seasons

stamps used:  Penny Black

Stamped the saying in the bottom corner first then got out some fun bright color inks, and randomly stamped the butterflies.  simple and sweet.

stamps used:  Stamps by Judith leaf, Fred Mullett maple leaves, Stamp Francisco face, SU leaf w/punch

The square on the bottom with face and leaves is left over from another project so I figured why not use it!  stamped the leaves along the left side just for fun.  all the words are hand written.

Fun flap card

stamps used:  Altenew butterflies

This is a fun fold card that has a flap on the bottom front of the card to open.  

base card = 4 1/4" x 11

score and fold at 5 1/2"

1.  cut top of front of the card to create the bottom flap of the card.

2.  adhere pattern paper to front flap.

3.  cut squares of red, kraft and white cardstocks.  adhere together.  adhere to front flap on a diagonal to look like a diamond shape.

4.  stamp and die cut Altenew butterfly.  mount to diamond shape on front of card.

5.  inside of card - adhere a strip of kraft and white cardstock.

6.  stamp and die cut small Altenew butterflies.  adhere to inside of card.

Right now this card is sentiment free but when I'm ready to send it I will stamp a sentiment.

Butterfly kisses

Today is the last day of July but by no means does that mean the summer is over.  Still lots of butterflies flying around in all their glory.  This stamped butterfly is colorful with all the colors of Perfect Pearls.  Stamped butterfly with VersaMark ink onto brown cardstock then dusted it with Perfect Pearls.  After dusting the butterfly I buffed it with a tissue to burnish in all the Perfect Pearls then spritz it with water to settle it in even more.  Add some self sticking pearls to make a flying trail.

Painted butterflies

 Summer has finally arrived here on the east coast so the butterflies are flying free!  both these butterflies are stamped and embossed then painted with Ranger Perfect Pearls.  to make pp paint just mix them with a little water.  adds some gems for butterfly trail and some sparkly papers and you are done.

Butterflies.....

Lots of butterflies today on my tag.  punched out several butterflies for a tag that has been sitting on my table for months.  if I remember correctly the background of the tag is distress inks that I watered down and let fall where they may then got out speckle stencil and did some white paint through it.  the butterflies are punched out of background paper I did ... again months ago ... with alcohol inks and stencils.  simple and springy!

Butterflies are free

Have a butterfly theme going here ... I guess, because I want it to be spring!!!  seems to be but you never know what Mother Nature is going to throw at us.

Tag you're it!

Had fun creating this tag because I used a stencil, colorized ribbon and a metal spinner that I have had in my stash for a very long time.  Basically I followed the instructions here on Tim Holtz blog.  did change it up a little since I didn't have any metal gear charms so I stamped and cut out gears but have to say I do like the ribbon bow.  it was fun to create.

Happy Easter

Don't have any cute bunny photos so how about some pretty tropical flowers and a colorful bird in tree. These are from Magic Wings in MA. Do enjoy that place but I will tell you to wear light weight clothes because it is kept very warm for the butterflies and tropical plants.

Pretty Butterflies

Here are some more of the beautiful butterflies. Really like the photo where one is resting and other is flying around him. The brown butterfly looks like brown suede in person. The green & yellow are like flourescent. If you ever have the chance to visit Magic Wings do so!

Butterflies are free!

We took a ride the other day to a place in Mass. called Magic Wings. It is a fun place where you go into these two rooms where these beautiful butterflies fly free while you walk around. You have to watch where you walk because there are little quail running around and the butterflies land and rest on benches or the ground. Look on my husband's shoulder! enjoy!
