Rocker card

Rocker card

Another fun fold card that is FUN, and interactive.

stamps used: Catherine Pooler Take a peek stamp set

This is an easy interactive card.

Instructions:

1. cut out circle die.  I used a 5" circle die.

2.  fold the circle die in half. That's it for this card.

Next all you do is decorate it. When it stands up it rocks back and forth.

Here is one of my first rocker cards back in 2013.

You can look on pinterest or you-tube to see it rocking.

Short but sweet post.

Monster penny spinners w/short video

 Monster penny spinners

stamps used:  Catherine Pooler monster stamps/dies set

Penny spinners are fun to create and to make spin.

basic instructions:

1. base card - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" fold in half at 4 1/4" to create card base.

2. Emboss 4" x 5 1/4" layer with spider web embossing folder. This is an old one, sorry don't know the brand...but use any you have.

3. Cut out opening with Lawn Fawn slide on over dies or again any you might have in your stash.

4. Place 1 penny behind opening, add foam dot (mounting tape)to penny.  Adhere second penny over the penny with the foam dot.

5. Add image (monster) to penny with another foam dot.

6.  Add foam mounting tape all around the back of the layer with the monster on the pennies in the opening.  Adhere this layer to base card.

VIOLIA done!  Now turn the card back and forth to make the monster slide and spin on the card.
See another penny spinner here with a video.  Just type in penner spinner in search bar to find lots more of this style card way back to 2013.

Stamp an image or two on the back of an envelope to go with the card.

Lighthouses

 Lighthouses

Lighthouses have a soft spot heart in my heart. They light our way safely home.

stamps/dies used:  Catherine Pooler Scenic Lighthouses stamp/dies and Altenew 3D embossing folders

These lighthouses are a two step style of stamps.  Two step stamps make coloring easy to do, and besides that there are dies so no fussy cutting.

These cards may look alike but there are similarities between them. A few of the cards have the embossed only on half of the card, where others are full embossed backgrounds.  There is one card with a green plaid background that I had in my stash.  The envelopes have pattern paper on the flaps.

More Platform front flap cards

Platform front flap cards with more

I'm on a little obsession right now, with these platform front flap cards.

stamps used:  Catherine Pooler stamp/die set

Today I'm showcasing more of the cards I call Platform front flap cards, but this time they have die cut outs on the flap.  It's fun to take a card, and then do something else to it.

stamps used:  Catherine Pooler stamp set

This time I took a square die cut, and turned it on the diagonal, or diamond side.

Instruction for these cards can be seen here but I have been making what I call platform cards for years.  Please type in platform cards on my search bar to see more.

Platform flap cards

 Platform flap cards

stamps used:  Stampin' Up

stamps used:  Stampin' Up

This is a variation of a card I called Platform cards, which you can see in this 2018 post, 2019 post, and 2020 post. These are just a few posts, if you would like to see more, type platform in my search box on the side bar.

Basic instructions:

base card (quarter card): 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"

layer: 4" x 5 1/4"

DSP flap layer: 3" x 6"  score at 1/2"

Score so the DSP (designer series paper or any pattern paper) matches up at the bottom of the 4" x 5 1/2" layer. Fold and score the DSP, and adhere 1/2" flap to back of 4" x 5 1/4" layer.  Stamp saying under flap on white layer so it is not visible when card is closed.  Adhere layer with flap to base, add embellishments to finish card.

Envelope:  adhere same DSP to flap for decoration.

Ghoul shaker card

 Ghoul shaker card!

stamps used:  Catherine Pooler Squad Ghouls stamp/die set, Unity stamp set Happy Halloween

It is always fun to bring back old favorites like shaker cards!  The best part is this is a new an improved shaker card, because I used a clear envelope for the shaker bits.  No more using a kraft knife to cut into foam board!  so no more fingers with bandaids from cuts.  Those kraft knives can be sharp.

The background was blended with a couple of orange ink pads. Next I stamped a couple of the small images from the stamp set to make a background.  Here is a tip that I do:  put a strip of tear and tape on the bottom back of the stamp card to hold it to the clear envelope.  Can you figure out why I did this?  I did this so the shaker bits stay in front of the stamped card.  You just need to slide the card in carefully, so it sticks only to the bottom inside of the clear envelope. Next add shaker bits, then seal up the clear envelope, and adhere it to black layer.  The black layer to an A2 white top folding card, then shake away! I stamped and die cut the ghoul...he is color blended with blue ink, blue gel pen on his spots, white gel pen on his teeth.  And of course, he needs google eyes!

Check out more of my shakers here, mini shaker here, vellum shakers.  To see more just type shakers in the search bar.

This ghoul shaker card is going to my 2 1/2 year old grandson. What do you think ... will he have fun shaking up this card?  I think so.

Monster envelope flap cards

 Monster envelope flap cards

I am having fun with these envelope flap cards, as you can tell ... since this is my second post with these style cards.

stamps/dies used: Catherine Pooler squad ghouls, Unity stamp co. sayings

The first two cards I'm showing have the envelope flaps adhered to the layer of the card.  This card is a two for one because, you cut the 4" x 4" pattern paper in half diagonally.  There you have two flaps to layer on to card.  I call this card the sealed envelope flap card.

Measurements/Instructions for open envelope card:
back layer card: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
folded card: 5 1/4" x 8" - score at 4" to create card
pattern paper: 4" x 4" folded in half diagonally

Adhere diagonally folded pattern paper to the back of the folded card.  Leave the front half of the diagonally folded pattern paper hanging over to create the open style envelope flap card.  If needed trim off end points of the pattern paper that extends beyond the folded card.  Adhere the folded card with envelope flap to back (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") layer to create the card.  Mount ghouls on circle to closed folded card, with foam tape only on the bottom of circle.  The point of the pattern paper flap tucks under the ghouls on the circle to hold the card closed.  Stamp your saying on the inside of the card.

Christmas in July

 Christmas in July

stamps used:  Catherine Pooler stamps/dies

Here is my card for my local stamp group for July 2022.  Yes, it is Christmas in July!  I did partial stencil on the side of the panel, then stamped the pine cones, and saying in brown ink.  A simple card, but I like it, because it will be easy to duplicate later in the year, when I need more Christmas cards.

Short post today ... just wanted to show a card.

Mixed media w/Friends #12 and #13

 Mixed media w/Friends

#12 and #13

Sue #12 Puffins

I used Catherine Pooler Puffin party stamp/die set to create this fun MMw/F jumbo playing card.  With mixed media the sky is the limit as you can see with the puffins standing on top of each other.

JAGS #12 Believe in magic

She did some beautiful ink blending for the background of her MMw/F jumbo playing card.  She stamped a fairy in black on a trio of mushrooms.

Sue #13 Little boy

Here I used an old book page for the background then layered TH paper doll/small talk on a corrugated tag.  Added some ripped papers and a couple other die cuts for interest.  Glued some beads to simulate the ground.  Distressed the background with ink.

JAGS #13 Inspire

She started out with black cardstock for the base.  Added an oval that was ink blended then mounted a beautifully colored sunflower onto the oval.

Hope you liked a look at our MMw/F jumbo playing cards.  If you want to see from the beginning look here and to see more of the MMw/F journey just type mixed media w/friends in the search block on the left side of my blog.

Monster pop ups

Happy Halloween!

 Monster pop up cards

stamps used:  Catherine Pooler monster ghouls stamp set/dies

Pop up cards are a long time favorite of mine.

measurements:

base card: 4 1/4" x 11 score and fold in half to form card.

pop up mechanism: cut a strip of cardstock and score evenly four times. Glue the two ends together to form cube.  Cube will be the pop up mechanism that will fold flat inside card.

Stamp and color all the monsters, die cut and adhere or mount to card. Inside card adhere the pop up cube at the folded score line of the base card.  Adhere saying or monster to pop up cube.  Add other layers to card as desired.  You can also see on my card I embossed one of the front layers for more dimension.

Never-ending shaker cards

 Never-ending shaker cards

stamps used:  Altenew stamps/dies and Catherine Pooler stamps/dies

Above shakers were made using clear envelopes, that fit the front of a card ... that is the reason for calling them never-ending because they fit end to end on the front of a card.  Open a clear envelope add a piece of pattern paper or a card that is stamped.  Pour in some sequins and no hole beads then seal the envelope, and tape to front of card.  Now you can shake away!
I've been making shaker cards for years, in fact it was one of the first interactive cards I learned how to make.  Back in the day we would make shaker cards cutting out foam core with a kraft knife.  You can see here with a silent video or here's another look at shaker cards.  To see more shakers I have made just type shaker in the search box in the side bar.

Rainy day shakers

 Rainy day shakers

stamps/dies used:  Catherine Pooler stamps/die set
I have been making shakers for years but the fairly new way to make shakers is with vellum.  Here I have two cards make with vellum and one a more traditional using foam mounting tape.  I also went out of my comfort zone by making a 5" x 7" and 4 1/4" x 6 1/2" size cards.  The reason being is because it was the way the vellum pieces I had sized out.  No problem, though, because I can make my own envelopes with my envelope maker to fit them.

basic vellum card instructions:
1.  lightly score the vellum on all four sides approximately 1/4". when done this will form pocket.
2.  tape three sides down to a white card but leave one open in order to fill with sequence and small no hole beads.
3. once filled adhere to folded card.

basic foam mounting tape card instructions:
1.  do all your stamping and die cutting first.
2.  with foam mounting tape create a well or pocket and fill with sequence and no hole beads.
3.  once filled adhere to another piece of cardstock or folded card itself.
You can see more of my shaker cards here with a video, see-thru shakers, mini shakers, 2009 shaker.  You can see more if you type shaker cards in the search box on my side bar.

Drapery fold cards

 Drapery Fold cards

You will see samples of several cards I created using this fold below.  This drapery or sometimes called curtain fold can be made into vertical or horizontal cards just by adjusting the measurements.  Also below you will see two diagrams showing all the score, and cutting lines for this fold.  Folding for these cards is just a basic accordion fold. Please scroll down to see my cards and diagrams for this drapery fold.

Mixed Media w/Friends #3 & #4

 Mixed Media w/Friends (MMwF)

MMwF #3 by sue - stamps used: Catherine Pooler Call Me stamp/die set

For the background I swiped on some Adirondak acrylic paints, which I have had in my stash for years.  In altering these jumbo playing cards we are trying to use up our stashes ... my friend and myself who are making these cards and trading them between ourselves.  On top of the paint I added some gold foil and gold thread then glued on a pre-made cardboard tag.  The doily and phone dies were adhered to the tag.

MMwF #4 by sue - stamps used: Stampin' Up Poppies, Altenew leaves, Make an Impression saying

I had a left over piece of Herringbone technique so I used that for the base.  Again using up things from my stash, I added a chipboard star that I covered with liquid pearl paint and small beads. stamped and fussy cut the flowers but the leaves had a die to cut them out. Just adhered everything to the base card to finish it.

MMwF #3 and #4 by Josette

Josette swiped paints on her cards to make fun ocean and sky looking backgrounds.  For her ocean theme she stamped the images directly over the painted background.  For her sky background she fussy cut flowers in a jar and punched out little dragonflies to add to her card.

If you want to see more of these Mixed Media w/friends cards just type it in the search bar in my side bar.

Joseph's coat

stamps used:  Catherine pooler stamps/dies

I do like to bring back oldie but goodie techniques and this is one of them ..... Joseph's coat!  It is one of those dramatic effects that when someone sees it they say, " how did you do that!"

basic instructions:
1.  blend or sponge on color all over card.
2.  allow to dry.  use an embossing buddy over the colored card.
3.  stamp images on card with clear embossing ink (any brand) then sprinkle with clear embossing powder and heat emboss.
4.  next dtp (direct to paper) with black ink pad.  you could also use a brayer or sponge ... you just want to cover the entire card with black ink.
5.  buff off excess ink with soft cloth and watch the magic happen!
tip:  use bright colors for the first step for best results.

Pine cone slimline with video

 Pine cone slimline

stamps used:  Catherine Pooler stamps, dies and inks

Slimline cards are all the rage right now, but I can remember making them years ago, then we called them something like tall cards.

Measurement:

base card - 6 1/2" x 8 1/4"  folded 3 1/4" x 8 1/4"

purple layer - 3 1/8" x 8"

ribbon wave 3D folder (Altenew) - 7 3/8" x 2 3/8"

Check back here for details how I made the embossing folder fit the length of the card. Here is another slimline card with embossed layer.  I used a couple of the new date ink colors from Catherine Pooler stamp company.
