June is all about fun folds in my local swap card group. I do love a good fun fold, and this one does not disappoint.

My old Canon camera doesn't want to play nice right now, so that is why I scanned the card open ... flat.  I learned this card from Stamp from Tami...go here to see a sample.

measurements:

base - 9 1/2" x 5 1/2"  score long side at 1/2" and 2 5/8" on either end.

inside base - 10 5/8" x 3"  score long side at 2 1/8" and 4 1/4" on either end.

layers - (four) 5 3/8" x 2", (four) 2 7/8" x 2", (one) 5 3/8" x 4 1/8"

pattern papers - (four) 5 1/4" x 1 7/8", (four) 2 3/4" x 1 7/8", (one) 5 1/4" x 4

This template is from Stamp with tami

instructions:

1. score the card bases.

2.  cut the layers. 

3.  stamp saying on white layer inside card.

4.  attach layers to card base and inside base.

5.  put glue on tabs on end of base card.  

6.  lay inside layer flay on base card onto tabs with glue.

7.  add die cut magnolia flower to front panel of inside layer.

Painted Jellyfish

Another week another #altenewchallengelive challenge with Jen Rzasa from Altenew stamp company.  The challenge for this week is NO black in our cards/projects.

If you know me you know I love a good fun fold, and like I've said before this is a good one.  It's a variation on a z-fold card, so I call it a z-fold with a twist.  Just to let you know I made this card because a friend sent me a birthday card in this style, thank you very much ... so ... I just had to go to pinterest and find instructions.

Again if you know me ... I couldn't stop at just making one or two cards. 

Here are three more cards with the theme no black using the Painted Jellyfish.  I do like this stamp set because a few years ago we visited the Mystic Aquarium where I saw a variety of Jellyfish.  I never knew they came in so many colors and sizes.

Horizonal fun fold

I'm over on Blank Page Muse blog today with a horizonal fun fold card.  The images used on these cards are from Blank Page Muse or our sister company I Brake for Stamps.

I do like to make cards that are a little different in design.  A friend sent me a card that was vertical in design, but it couldn't stand so I decided to turn it around to the horizonal orientation.  This way it could stand on it's own as you see in the photo.

 Measurements:

base card - 9 1/2" x 4 1/4"  score at 4"

pattern paper (front layer) - 3 3/4" x 3 3/4"

inside white layer - 3 3/4" x 3 3/4"

pattern paper strip - 1 3/8" x 3 3/4"

For the stamped layer you can do circles, rectangles or any shape that fits the card.

I have been having fun with this stamp set for months.  It makes good birthday, Valentine, or just because cards.

This card is called a Back Fold card.

In above picture you can see the card open, and closed. 
Measurements

base card: 5 1/2" x 7 1/4"  scored at 1 1/4" & 4 1/4"

Layers: pattern paper front 2 3/4" x 5 1/4" (front)

2 3/4" x 5 1/4" (inside left side)

1" x 5 1/4" (back fold-right side)

Use mounting tape to mount image on back fold (right side) of the card.  BUT only put mounting tape on right side of image otherwise you will tape the card closed ... and you don't want that.  teeheeheee

 This is one of my go to fun folds that I learned at least 10 years ago.

This pattern paper has a lot of designs that work great for masculine cards.  My focal image is a flower so not quite suitable for masculine cards.  Although there are male gardeners out there that might appreciate these cards.

Here is a close up view of the card

Look to the left on the photo to see the fold.  To color this flower I just did an easy watercolor technique.  Basically I use a water brush with ink from the top of ink pad to color.

I do like my fun fold cards, and this one is a good one! 

Measurements:

base card: 4 1/4" x 8"  scored at 1 1/4" and 2 1/2" (z-fold card design)

pop up:  3 1/4" x 6"  scored at 1/2" and 1 3/4"

inside layer: pattern paper 4" x 5 1/4"

outside strip of pattern paper: 2 1/2" x 2 5/8"

front layer: 2 5/8" x 3 1/8"

mini card (on front of card): 5 1/8" x 2 3/4"

I saw this on Dawn's blog but for her card she added a white layer to the back of the card to write on.  I changed it up by adding a mini card to the front of the card.

Border gatefold cards

This is a border gatefold card with a twist ... the twist is I used decorative border dies to create a fancy edge on the cards.

Here's a template for measurements and scoring I used for this card.

Instructions:

Score and fold as seen in template diagram.  Keep card folded, and place border die on card.  Run through Big Kick (any die cutting machine will work).  This will cut through the two folded layers, but not the back of the card.  It will leave an impression on the back of the card, but I just added a layer inside the card to hide the impression.

I had so much fun making these fun fold cards I couldn't stop.  I saw this idea on Jennifer McGuire's blog ... I just changed up the size of the card a bit.

This card is a fun fold with a twist on the gate fold card.  This card size does need a handmade envelope because it is an unusual size.  I use my envelope maker to make different size envelopes.

Measurements:

base card: 9" x 6"  - score at 3" and 6"

layers:  (3) light blue 5 1/2" x 2 3/4"

pattern paper: (3) 5 1/4" x 2 1/2"

inside: 5 3/4" x 2 3/4"(color layer)

5 1/2" 2 1/2" (white)

Once you make one of these cards it will be easy peasy.  It's just a matter of going for it, and folding on the score lines in the same directions as you see my diagram.

Accordion fun fold cards are a wow factor type card, and easy to create.  

measurements:

base card:  5 1/2" x 4 1/4"

pattern paper: 12" x 5 1/4"  score at 1", 4" and 8"

Fold the pattern (12" x 5 1/4") paper accordion style ..... valley - mountain - valley folds.  Adhere accordion card to base card.  Add stamped card to front valley fold, and adhere other stamped layer to inside of card.  Easy as that!

Z-fold cards are one of the first fun fold cards I learned way back in the day.  Basically you cut a 4 1/4" x 11" card, fold it in half, then in half again back on itself.  Boom!  that is it.  Now it is just adding stamped layers to finish the card.  I had some 3D embossed folder pieces done so I layered them onto the front of the card.  Next stamped tree scenes and layered on the front of the card.  Only thing you need to remember for this card is when layering stamped piece to front of card ..... only tape half of card and adhere to front section of card before the score line.  Here is one I did a few years ago.

I do like fun folds, and this card combines my love for fun folds plus card that do something ..... don't just stand there.

measurements:

base card: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" score at 4 1/4"

inside folded card: 5 1/4" x 8" score at 2" and 4"

other layers: nested postage dies

Adhere pattern paper to front of base card and cut out opening.  Adhere inside folded card to base card.  Stamp saying on center of open card.  Fold inside folded card closed and adhere layers through the opening.  Boom!  card is done!

You will see samples of several cards I created using this fold below.  This drapery or sometimes called curtain fold can be made into vertical or horizontal cards just by adjusting the measurements.  Also below you will see two diagrams showing all the score, and cutting lines for this fold.  Folding for these cards is just a basic accordion fold. Arrow fold card

 ARROW FOLD CARDS

I know I say this all the time when it comes to folded cards but this is a FUN fold card! 

Back to my cards, oh yeah take a look at them.  BTW these cards are for my local creative card crew group...the theme is anything goes.

stamps used:  Catherine Pooler stamps/dies

Measurements and instructions:

base card:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", score at 4 1/4"  turn the card so it is tall when marking.

1.  Mark at 2 1/8" on the left side and right side of the card base.

2.  Mark at 2 3/4" at the bottom center of the card base.

3.  Score the marks then fold.

Pattern paper:  4" x 5"

1.  mark at 2 1/2" at the bottom center.

2.  cut from the 2 1/2" mark to the upper left corner and the upper right corner.  Use all three pieces or just use white layer 4" x 5 1/3" on the inside.

White cs (inside):  4" x 5"

1.  mark at 2 1/2" at the bottom center.

2.  cut from the 2 1/2" mark to the upper left and upper right corner.

Assemble card:

1.  adhere the bigger triangle pattern piece to the front of the card.

2.  adhere the two smaller triangles to the left and right sides of the inside of the card.

3.  adhere the white triangle to the inside of the card.

***instead of cutting and adhering a cut white triangle to the inside of the card ... you can just adhere the full 4" x 5" white cs to the inside of the card then adhere the two smaller pattern paper triangles to the sides.***  I found it easier to just add the 4" x 5" white cs to the inside.***

Collar fold and V pop up card

stamps used:  Stampin' Up and  Unity stamp co.

This my August Fancy fold card for my local swap group.

To make the collar fold:

1.  On 5 1/4" x 4" DSP find the center of the long side.

2.  Cut in about 1/2" to 1" and fold back each side of the cut.

3.  Tape down each side of the collar and you are done.

To make the pop up inside:
1.  Start with a piece of 8 1/4" x 5 1/4"

2.  Score in the center at 4-1/8

3.  On each side at the top, left and right make a pencil mark at 2 1/4" 

4.  At the center score from the top make a mark down at 2 3/4"

5.  Place a ruler at the top left hand side going diagonal to the center mark and score, repeat on the right hand side. 

6. Fold the score line inside card.  This is a reverse fold.

Platform fun fold card

I do like to make fun fold cards!  and this one is no exception.  I like to call this style card a platform card because the folded card is on a single layer base card.  To me it looks and feels like a platform but I'm sure there is another name out there that someone else named it...but...for me it will always be a Platform card.

Measurements:

Folded card:  8 1/2 x 3 1/2

tip:  folded card can be any size smaller than the platform.

base or platform:  4 1/4 x 5 1/2

Basically that is all you need to know, anything beyond that is just decorating the card.

Corner folded bookmarks

stamps used:  MFP & stamps,  Unity stamp co.

Start out with a piece of square paper.  I used pattern papers from different companies.

basic instructions:

1.  Fold bottom corner to meet with top corner this will form a triangle.

2.  Fold right point up to the middle point.

3.  Fold left point up to the middle point.

4.  Unfold both end points back to triangle shape.

5.  Fold one half of middle point down to the bottom edge.

6.  Fold the right point back up to the middle point.

7.  Next tuck the end underneath the fold.

8.  Fold the left point back up to the middle point.

9.  Tuck the end underneath the fold.

They really are easy to create once you make one and get the idea.

Flip flap cards

stamps used:  Unity stamp co.

This is called a flip flap card.  It's been around for awhile and it is making a come back.  I've seen it online again so I decided to make a couple of these card designs.
This basically a flat card that doesn't open like a normal A2 card.  The flap layer is the opening of the card.

Measurements:
base card:  5 1/2" x 4 1/4"
pattern paper:  5 1/4" x 4"
flap layer:  1 3/4" x 4 5/8"   score at 1/2"
circle dies:  different sizes

Instructions:
1.  fold on score line of the flap layer and adhere the folded section to the back of the pattern paper.
2.  adhere the flap layer with the pattern paper to the base card.
3.  adhere the biggest circle die to the flap layer but only adhere half of the circle die.
4.  flip the flap layer up, and with a small piece of re-positional tape, add second circle die of the same size to the back of the circle die on the front of the flap.  Add glue/tape to the back of second circle that is attached with re-positional tape.  Next flip the flap down to position the second circle die to the base card.  The second circle die should now be positioned on the base card and when the flap is closed the circle dies should match.
5.  stamp the white circle dies and adhere to the front and inside circle dies.
You are now done with your Flip Flap card and when you flip the front up you will reveal the message under the front flap.

This is another card that has been around for years but, I think has been neglected for too long so I'm bringing it back.  Yes, there will be a video at the end of this post or you can visit my you-tube channel to see this video plus more.

Measurements

base card: A2 note card 5 1/2" x 8 1/2 (unfolded)

inside folded card:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2"  score at 2 1/8", 4 1/4" and 6 3/8"

See in photo inside folded card is folded:  valley, mountain and valley.  The middle is punched out with a paper punch.  Tape each end to the inside of card.  You can see more details in video.

GIU day 4 - step pop up card

It's Thursday day 4 for GIU guest blogging and in keeping with my theme ... in case you haven't figured it out ... it's pop up style cards.  Today I'm showing you the basic step pop up card.  It is the first pop up card I learned how to create.

stamps used:  Unity wreath builder stamp step by Gina K. designs

I couldn't resist to use my new wreath builder stamp set that just arrived a couple of days ago.  I did the basic wreath builder cards but you can watch videos from Gina K. or Jennifer McGuire for more advanced ideas.

The inside of this card is a basic step pop up card ... if you don't know what that is then take a look at these photos.

measurements:

inside step card - 5 1/4" x 8 1/4"

Fold in half then on the fold cut two parallel (two cuts next to each other). 

Fold the cut out back and forth.

Next unfold the card and reverse fold the cut out section.

That is all there is to it.

Day 3 for GIU gal week

Here we are at mid-week for my guest blogging for GIU gal ..... the week is going by fast for me.  I sure hope you are enjoying the cards I am showing this week.

Today I'm featuring one of the Unity cuddlebugs ... caterpillar, she is adorb as Whitney would say. Although I'm not sure Whitney likes bugs especially a snake like one but I think this cuddlebug is adorb!  First I'll show photos including a template to make it easy to see how to fold this card.  It is easier than you would think once you make one or two.  After you look at the photos you can watch my video below or at  my you-tube channel where you can see more of my videos.

measurements:

base card:  8" x 8"  this card can be any size as long as you start with a square.

pattern papers:  3 3/4" x 3 3/4"

The bottom pattern paper is also 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" just cut diagonally in half.

Assembly:

Put the diagonal fold in the left top.  Cut quarter nest to diagonal fold section.

1.  fold down in half.

2.  fold up to create an "L" shape

3.  next fold bottom fold to the left.

4.  last fold top to bottom.  now you should have folded your card into a square.
