Fun Faux layers with a twist

Fun Faux layers with a twist

Today I'm doing a technique I call Faux layers today for Blank Page Muse blog.

Here's a closer look at this technique.

basic instructions:

1.  Mask off section on card with post it notes, or any masking paper.

2.  Blend colors between the masked off section.  For the above card I did the colors in three sections.  When done blending colors the first time, go over it again to smooth out the colors.

3.  Before removing masks I place a stencil down.  Colored the stencil with a shade darker ink colors to add more dimension to the faux layer.

4.  Remove the stencil, and masks.  Stamp image, and saying with black ink on the card leaving some of the image over the blended colors.

5.  Add stamped layer to a black card then A2 (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") folded card.

6.  Add some self sticking gems for that finishing touch.

It's fun to bring back an old technique, and just add a little twist to it.

ATC's with masterboard

 ATC's with masterboard

It's been a while since I have done ATC (artist trading card) so why not makes some.

What I did this time around is I created what is called a masterboard.  A masterboard is basically a full 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock stamped with different images.
Then cut up the masterboard to create the ATC's.  Here is a cutting template for cutting a full 8 1/2" x 11" sheet.
ATC are 3 1/2" x 2 1/2"
After cutting up the masterboard into ATC's you can add other items for more dimension.  For mine I stamped, and fussy cut the bird to mount onto the ATC.  Also added a strip of pattern paper for a little more interest.  The fun with making a stamped masterboard is you can use all different images...and...they will look great together.
You get 10 ATC's using the cutting template.

Bookmarks and more

 Bookmarks and more

Today I decided to make some bookmarks in different sizes...with pockets, and without.

Size of the tag determines the size of the pocket.  Flamingo bookmarks are stamped in pink ink then layered onto black bookmark.  Long stemmed flower was stamped on black card with white ink.  After letting the white pigment ink dry ... I spot colored with my prisma color pencils.  The flower stamped on the front of the pocket was done by inking stamp directly with red ink for flower ...green ink on stem.  Then stamp it on white card to get the multi color flower.

Pocket - base 5 1/2" x 6 3/4".  Fold in half to form pocket.  Punch top with circle punch.

Again I stamped the images with white pigment ink, and let them dry.  Spot colored with primas color pencils.

Pocket - 6" x 6" pattern paper.  Fold in half.  Fold top corner down to form slanted pocket.  Glue side, and bottom to form pocket.

Rocker cards w/video

 Rocker cards

Rocker cards are fun, and easy to create.  All you need are circle dies, or if you don't have dies you can just cut out circles.

Here's a short video show how I put together these rocker cards.

Basic instructions:
Cut out circle and fold in half.  Adhere any pattern paper for decoration.

Best thing I can tell you is only put double stick tape, or glue to bottom half of stamp image.

Then adhere to folded circle card ... that creates the rocker card.

Wildflower, Yikes!

 Wildflower, Yikes!

Check me out over Blank Page Muse blog today with a pop up, or it can be called a pop out card.

Once you do one of these cards you will be addictive to this card design.
The wildflower is unique, and quirky along with the fun pattern paper.  Of course, with this quirky flower I just had to use a bright green ink to show it off.
First I wrote up these measurements for the pop up mechanism. Next I drew pictures to go along with my notes.
Measurements/Basic instructions:
1.  On A2 card 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" adhere pattern paper.
2.  die cut out section.  save cut out shape to adhere to pop up mechanism later.
3.  cut strip of cardstock 1 1/2" x 4"  score at 1", 2", 3".  fold on all scores.

4. on folded strip add glue (or favorite adhesive) to one of the sections with glue on the inside of the card at the fold.  see template/notes #2 drawing.  When card is closed you can see the strip through the opening.  Open card and fold the strip in half. see template/notes #3 drawing.  Put glue (or favorite adhesive) above fold of card.  see template/notes #3 drawing.  Close card to attach pop mechanism to card.

Next adhere die cut shape you saved from before to the pop up mechanism when card is closed.  Good idea to stamp/decorate the die cut shape before adhering to pop up mechanism.  Finish decorating to complete the card.

Violets back fold card

 Violets back fold card

I'm on I Brake for Stamps blog today showing the back fold card.

This is a fun, and unique fun fold card that I saw on Rachel Tessman you-tube channel, and fell in love with the design.

This beautiful violet stamp from I Brake for stamps co. stamps up beautifully even with a color ink.  Here I used a dark blue ink to match the pattern paper colors.
Measurements

base card: 5 1/2" x 7 1/4"  scored at 1 1/4" & 4 1/4"

Layers: pattern paper front 2 3/4" x 5 1/4" (front)

2 3/4" x 5 1/4" (inside left side)

1" x 5 1/4" (back fold-right side)

Use mounting tape to mount image on back fold (right side) of the card.  BUT only put mounting tape on right side of image otherwise you will tape the card closed ... and you don't want that.  teeheeheee

See another back fold card here.

Lotus flower

 Lotus flower

I'm over on Blank Page Muse blog today.

If you know me, you know I like to make moveable, mechanical or just different style cards.  This card is called a tent fold card.
You can see in this side view photo how the stamped card sticks out above the card.
Measurements/instructions
base: 8 1/2" x 4 1/4"  score at 4 1/4" to form the folded card.
top layers(layer sticking above the card): cut out with Unity stamp co. stitched square dies
front layers: 4 1/8" x 4 1/8"
1.  adhere the front layers to folded card.
2.  stamp small cream layer with image then layer with pattern paper layer.
3.  put glue only on bottom half of stamped layer, then stick to top of card, leaving only enough of the stamped image hanging off the card, to make the card measure to 5 1/2" tall.  The card will measure 5 1/2" x 4 1/4", and will fit into an A2 envelope.

4.  adhere ribbon on front of card.  To create ruffle just fold over the ribbon while adhering.  Add bow on top of ruffle ribbon.

Winter birthday

 Winter birthday

I do like my layering stencil sets, and this one is perfect for slimline cards.

This layering stencil set is named Christmas tree truck, but I decided to make it a winter birthday card.  I did this by using a birthday saying, that I could do part on the front of the card, then second part inside the card.  In order to do this, I just put a piece of scotch tape on the part of the saying I didn't want to ink up.  Remove the scotch tape, then stamp saying.  Next place scotch tape on second part of saying, that you don't want to ink up before stamping.
When I use this stencil next time I will change up the color of the truck.  Just thought a red truck would be good for a winter card.
Measurements I use for slimline cards.

Double delight

 Double delight

Here posting for Blank Page Muse today.  This is a card design I learned years ago to show off decorative papers. First I did the card in a horizontal card, or it is also called landscape.

It's call Double delight, because it shows off both sides of the paper, as you can see in the photo.
Here's a close up to show off one side of the paper, and the fun unicorn with all her sparkle.

Next is a look at a vertical or portrait style card.
measurements/instructions:
base (portrait card): 5 1/4" x 5 1/2" - with 5 1/4" side at top of scoring board ... score at 1".
decorative paper: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
Cut out base card, then cut off all but an inch of the card for the front of the base card.  If you look at photo you can see where the solid color cardstock ends, and the decorative paper is showing.  Tape the decorative paper to the backside of the 1" section of the card.
This paper pack has lots of great designs to show off on these cards.

3 Panel cards

 3 Panel cards

This style card is good to do when you have scraps of pattern papers.

Check out the envelope in the photo.  You can even use scraps to decorate flap of envelope.
basic instructions:
1.  Cut three 1 1/2" strips of pattern paper, and adhere them to 5" x 3 3/4" color layer of cardstock.
2.  Adhere layer with 3 strips to note card 5 1/2" x 4 1/4".

3.  Stamp saying on white cardstock.  Cut ends to look like a banner, then mount to card with a small piece of ribbon behind it.
4.  Add self sticking gems to finish card.
Tip:  you can make strips any size as long as they fit on card.
