Mixed media w/friends #5

 Mixed media w/Friends #5

I have been bad with showing our MMw/F (mixed media w/friends) cards lately.  Below are two MMw/F cards from way back in May 2021.  I will catch up showing more soon.

MMw/F #5 by sue

you can click on pic to enlarge to see supplies

The best part about making these mixed media style projects is you get to use up lots of things in your stash.  For instance, I have had this pad of fabric paper for a year, and I finally used it!

MMw/F #5 by josette

Here she used Unity stamps and distress inks to distress the edges of the card.  She went the extra mile and made an envelope to fit the card.
Hope you are enjoying seeing our mixed media jumbo playing cards.  Here is where it all started MMw/F #1 post.  If you want to see more you can type mixed media w/friends in the search box in my side bar.
Thanks for stopping by and come back again soon.

Call me stencil cards

stamps used:  Catherine Pooler stamps
stencils used:  dylusions, Stencil Girl

These cards are for my local card swapping group, and the theme was Stencils or Embossing folders.  I decided to use stencils and as you can see I couldn't make up my mind on the stencil to use, so I used a variety of them.  Please click on photo to see it better, because I did the stencil technique on a die cut banner in the same kraft cardstock as the base card.

Basic instructions:
1.  die cut the banner
2.  blend colors on 3/4 of the banner.
3.  place stencil over blended colors.  use the darkest color to blend through the stencil.
4.  adhere banner to base card.
5.  stamp, die cut, and mount telephone on top of banner.
6.  stamp small saying below the banner on base card.

Get out your stencils and just have fun!

Mini books

products used:  Ranger dylusions by dyan reaveley

Last weekend I took a class at Papercraft Clubhouse  with dyan reaveley making fun mini books.
These books are full of windows and cut out pages!
There is no sewing involved with these books just gluing pages together to form them.
Had a lot of fun in class.  If you ever have the chance to take a class with dyan reaveley do it!  It is worth it!  She is fun and very good teacher.  Also in her classes she supplies everything from papers, journals, stamps and whatever you need...it's all included in class.
Thanks for stopping by.  come back soon.  comments welcome.

paints, stamps and stencils

Playing with paints, stamps and stencils to create fun mixed media backgrounds and more.
six pages of mixed media fun.
started off by spraying with dylusions sprays for the base of the backgrounds.  next it was lots of different stencils using dylusions paints and even just plain water for a bleached out effect.

For these two tags I cut up one of the background pages.  One of the stencils I sprayed came out kinda looking like blobs so I got out some Ranger liquid pearls and drew a design in the blobs.  While that was drying I stamped images on separate pieces of cardstock, fussy cut them out and just added a big of color here and there to them.  I adhered them to the tags and viola!  done!
what do you think?  thanks for stopping by and comment to let me know what you think of my backgrounds and tags.

Art Journal wk#35 Collage

week #35 - Collage
stamps used:  Stamper's Anon., dylusions, MFP
Yeah! for me.  I'm all caught up again for my art journal challenge.  this week is collage which sometimes for me a bit out of my comfort zone but I like the way this page turned out.  I looked around my craft table and just used what was there so first I glued down a piece of printed deli paper.  This deli paper is used as placemats at a restaurant in MA that friends and I ate at when we were away for a weekend.  next I glued on some stamped images I had colored and fussy cut that are in a container on my table.  I added some washi tape because let's face it we all have rolls of it!  last I stamped the umbrella...colored it in with chalks....stamped clouds but they were getting lost so I paper pieced them to make them pop.  done and done!

Art journal wk#31 Mandala

week #31 - Mandala
Here is my take on the mandala prompt.  I have a Stencil Girl mandala stencils so I wanted to try out the distress oxide inks on black so ....... I painted my page with dylusions black paint and let it dry overnight.  I placed the stencil on the painted black page and went to town with distress oxides: antique linen, twisted citron and spiced marmalade.  it looks much better in real life.  will be playing more with oxides on black.  on the top corners I stamped MFP medallion with white pigment ink and just hand wrote mandala and date with dylusions white paint pen.

Art Journal wk#30 - opposites

week #30 - prompt is Opposites
For this page I used a couple of Dyan Reavely stencils with her dylusions paints.  this is the easiest page I've done, yet, for this group.  just wasn't a prompt I could get into but that is alright...there are still quite a few weeks left so I'm sure there will be other prompts I will do better.  to explain a little about what I was going for with this page .... my husband and I are complete opposites in every aspect so I did night for him and day for me.

Art journal wk#23 - color graduation

wk# 23 - color graduation
stamps used: Ranger  dylusions
inks: Ranger distress inks
Now if you know me and I'm told to do color graduations.....what color do you think I am going to pick?????  yeah, easy one.....green!!!  that's a given.  Again, I kept it simple and let the color shine.  Just stamped a couple of images for fun and of course the date.....added a few Nuvo drops just because I could.

art journal wk# 22 - lift

week #22 - Lift
stencils by Crafter's Workshop
stamps - dragonflies by ASITH, typewriter alphabet/numbers by Stampers Anonymous

I used dylusions sprays to color the background and let it air dry overnight.  when it was dry I placed a stencil down (actually used two different stencil designs) then sprayed it with water to lift away some of the color.  again I let it dry for a few hours then I stamped the dragonflies with archival black ink and stamped the date at the bottom of the page.  kept this page simple to show off the lifting of the water from the color.

Art Journal wk# 21 brayer paint

week #21 - brayer paint
stamps used:  big fern Hot Potatoes, rain cloud and boots MFPandstamps
the prompt for this week was to brayer layers of paint onto my art journal so that is just what I did!  I got out my Ranger dylusions paint....mainly because they are handy and usually out by my table.  picked random colors and went for it.  It's been rainy here for over a week ... probably closer to two weeks but I need to get over all the rain ..... anyway back to my journal pages ..... I did a rain theme.  you can see the raindrops stencil on the gelli printed tag on one side and clouds with red rubber boots on the other side.  yes, I am starting to finish the gelli prints I created over my friends' house last weekend.

Art Journal - blank page syndrome

stamps used:  Altenew and dylusions
week #16 - blank page syndrome
the idea for this layout was to start out by layering some kind of written paper on the blank journal pages.  I used this printed deli paper that my friends and I got at a restaurant that the waitress so generously gave us a few sheets.  they used them as place mats on the tables.  after I glued the printed deli sheet on my journal I swiped some  Ranger paint dabbers on it...walked away from it and let it dry to think on what else I wanted to do.  I kept it simple by fussy cutting out some Altenew laying flowers and adhering them on one side then fussy cut out dylusions sayings and adhered them to the other side and called it a day.

Year of the Rooster art journal

week #15 curvy and/or round elements
dylusions paints, sayings, black paint pen and distress oxide ink pad
hand carved bird
flying geese - stampscapes
Just had fun with this journal page layout by doodling circles around where I used the round blending tool and dabbed or pushed down to make circles of paint.  as always with me, I used what was out and at hand on or around my craft table so that's why the dylusions paints and distress wilted violet oxide ink pad.  I did a water-wash with the oxide ink inside the figure 8's I drew.  oh, yes that bird is also my creation that I carved a while back.  stamped dylusions quirky sayings just for the fun of it.

Fun with tags

stamps used: Limited Edition, Stampotique, dylusions and hand carved bird
dylusions sprays, stencils and paints
washi tapes
still in my green and purple mode with these two large tags.  the silhouette tag has a couple of masks/stencils on it with some washi tapes and ink blending with regular distress and oxide on it.
the bird tag has the ink sprays dripping down it for dimension and fun.  I carved the bird a while ago so it is a bit primitive but I like it and that is a good thing otherwise I would use it...right?  I did stamp the little daisies (co. unknown) with distress wilted violet oxide inks...I'm liking those inks! also got out a couple of spotted/splatter stamps that I've had forever ... think the cluster one is by Printworks which is out of business, unfortunately.  Oh, yeah I colored in my carved bird with dylusions white paint and beak is prisma orange color pencil.  tie on some twine and or ribbon to finish off tag.

Art Journal Adventure - home

row of houses - JFF stamps
balloons - peg stamps by Stamps by Judith
tree and home sweet home - MFP stamps
It's a dangerous saying - Stampers Anonymous
Week #13 Home
For this layout I went bright colors...just the mood I was in and what was close at hand.  started off by spraying my pages with dylusions ink sprays so that means the pages get wet and I have to be patient and let them dry!  needless to say I did let them dry but that meant I left it for a couple of days on my table before I went back to finish it.  but before that I decided to stamp a tag and the sayings on separate pieces of cardstock to use on my journal page layout.  oh yeah, I was making a couple of birthday cards in between so that is why all the balloons.  let me know what you think.

year of the rooster art journal-door

hear is my art journal page layout for the prompt - feature a door.  I took it literally and made a door out of stamped cardstock then added some chickens inside the door when you open it.  for these pages I just slapped on dylusions paints with a brayer so it also gives the background some texture.  see more of my art journal pages here.

looking thru keyhole...

this is a fun tag I created using dylusions sprays, stencils with Unity stamp co. stamps.  oh yes, there is some washi tape in the bottom corner that I think is from TH collection.  it's out of it's packaging so I'm just guessing unless anyone know for sure and if you do leave me a comment to confirm.  have a great day whatever you are doing.

Put a bird on it!

Yes, I put three birds on it!  here are two postcards I stamped with Ranger dylusions Put a bird on it stamp set.  guess I'm a little bird crazy lately with either TH crazy birds or now with this new set I bought a couple of weeks ago.  basically I stamped the birds with a waterproof black ink then went to town water coloring with my distress pads that I just smooshed on craft sheet then picked up the color with a waterbrush.

fun tag?

fun tag ... you tell me ... do you think this is a fun tag?  this tag is full of sprays, stencils, rub-ons, stamps and ribbon.  I got my hands all inky with this tag spraying ink all over it.
tip:  when I was a kid my father worked for a construction crew (Dan Deering co.-wow, can you believe I remember the name of the company), anyway he would come home full of dirt, grime and tar because he ran the big roller that flattened the tar...and the only thing that would clean his hands was a soap called LAVA.  I discovered that it is also great for getting inky/painted hands clean.
now back to my tag and what I did to it ..... I sprayed it with dylusion sprays, let that dry.  got out dylusion stencil (have a theme going here-dylusions) and sprayed through the stencil ... let that dry ... yes, a lot of drying time here.  added a rub-on in the bottom corner then stamped skeleton head and flowers.  highlighted with white pen ... did what I call faux bleaching that is where you paint with water and let it "bleach" out the color.  this only works with certain inks and sprays like dylusions products or distress products ... others may work you just need to experiment.  last I added ribbon ... first I threaded a piece of fiber through the hole ... next wrapped variegated ribbon around my hand which made loops ... took the wrapped ribbon placed it between the fiber threaded through the hole and tied a knot then separated the loops for a fun loopy bow.
entering the following challenges:
1.  Really Reasonable Ribbon's Ramblings! - anything but a card
2.  Addicted to stamps and more - #205 photo inspiration
3.  Tag You're it! challenge - #53 - I used the colors
