String painting

String painting!
This is just what it is called string painting.

Go to your kitchen drawer and pull out that big ball of string  ... admit it you have one of those ball of strings in there.
You could string up a 100 turkeys and still have half of that ball of string left so today we are going to use it in our crafts!
This is what I did:
1.  cut off a length of string.
2.  press the string into any craft paint you have in your craft area.
3.  place the painted string in what I like to call waves or half circles down your paper ... or in my case my journal page.
4.  close the journal ... hold it closed fairly tightly then ... PULL the string straight out of the closed journal.
5.  open the journal and see the fun "trumpet" like shape flowers that form.  each time you do this technique the design will look a little different.

Art Journal wk# 21 brayer paint

week #21 - brayer paint
stamps used:  big fern Hot Potatoes, rain cloud and boots MFPandstamps
the prompt for this week was to brayer layers of paint onto my art journal so that is just what I did!  I got out my Ranger dylusions paint....mainly because they are handy and usually out by my table.  picked random colors and went for it.  It's been rainy here for over a week ... probably closer to two weeks but I need to get over all the rain ..... anyway back to my journal pages ..... I did a rain theme.  you can see the raindrops stencil on the gelli printed tag on one side and clouds with red rubber boots on the other side.  yes, I am starting to finish the gelli prints I created over my friends' house last weekend.

Art Journal - blank page syndrome

stamps used:  Altenew and dylusions
week #16 - blank page syndrome
the idea for this layout was to start out by layering some kind of written paper on the blank journal pages.  I used this printed deli paper that my friends and I got at a restaurant that the waitress so generously gave us a few sheets.  they used them as place mats on the tables.  after I glued the printed deli sheet on my journal I swiped some  Ranger paint dabbers on it...walked away from it and let it dry to think on what else I wanted to do.  I kept it simple by fussy cutting out some Altenew laying flowers and adhering them on one side then fussy cut out dylusions sayings and adhered them to the other side and called it a day.

Year of the Rooster art journal

week #15 curvy and/or round elements
dylusions paints, sayings, black paint pen and distress oxide ink pad
hand carved bird
flying geese - stampscapes
Just had fun with this journal page layout by doodling circles around where I used the round blending tool and dabbed or pushed down to make circles of paint.  as always with me, I used what was out and at hand on or around my craft table so that's why the dylusions paints and distress wilted violet oxide ink pad.  I did a water-wash with the oxide ink inside the figure 8's I drew.  oh, yes that bird is also my creation that I carved a while back.  stamped dylusions quirky sayings just for the fun of it.

Week #14 - include strong vertical and horizontal elements
This layout is a mix of stamping and masking to create all the vertical and horizontal lines.  Also used washi tapes to create horizontal lines along with stamps then threw in some stamped sayings just because I could.  did some doodle lines around the horizontal lines just for fun.

Art Journal Adventure - home

row of houses - JFF stamps
balloons - peg stamps by Stamps by Judith
tree and home sweet home - MFP stamps
It's a dangerous saying - Stampers Anonymous
Week #13 Home
For this layout I went bright colors...just the mood I was in and what was close at hand.  started off by spraying my pages with dylusions ink sprays so that means the pages get wet and I have to be patient and let them dry!  needless to say I did let them dry but that meant I left it for a couple of days on my table before I went back to finish it.  but before that I decided to stamp a tag and the sayings on separate pieces of cardstock to use on my journal page layout.  oh yeah, I was making a couple of birthday cards in between so that is why all the balloons.  let me know what you think.

Art Journal Adventure - open

This is week #12 - prompt Opening for the Art Journal Adventure the year of the rooster. I started out on these pages by dusting color with an Elf brush......used a couple of blue inks.  next I stamped the open minded head (old stamp-don't know the company) with black ink and add some color with my Prisma color pencils.  stamped mini birds and moths coming out of his mind and stenciled faces.  on the opposite page did the same dusting with the blue inks.....stamped OPEN your mind with three different alphabet sets.  stamped the same moths on this page along with stenciling the same face then blended some distress oxide violet ink around the edges to finish off the pages.

Art Journal - caught up!

this layout is transform the edge which I did with my Dyan journal block.  if you look to the right you can see the curvy edge.
this two page layout is travel but because the two pages before were the transformed edge you can see them here, too.  the page on the left is a cut wavy edge but the right side is not cut just a wavy edge that is like it was stenciled.
Both sets of layouts were colored with distress inks, blending tool, stamped and a little select coloring.  the images are from lots of companies:  LIWP, SU, MFP and Stamper's Anon. The little postmarks and postage style stamps aren't mark so I don't remember what company...they have to be 15 to 17 years old.

Art Journal Adventure - time

Prompt for this layout is time related.  did a little collage and lots of stamping for this layout.  got out old stamps and even included a tag I created a while ago that fits right into the time theme.  I am enjoying this art journaling with the prompts...you see when I'm left on my own I seem to leave the journals and stick to my comfort zone ... which is cards, postcards and tags.  I'm not one for writing down my feelings and such but doing these art pages is fun.  besides the fact I'm getting out paints supplies that I haven't touched in years so this is a good thing!

Art Journal adventure - text underneath

This is my layout for text underneath.  I did it this way because before I used the masks and added the black paint it was just too busy for me ... but now I like it.  You can still see the stamped words underneath in the masked areas and a little under the black paint to.....that is in person you can see through the black paint.  this week the prompt is all about time so guess I'll think about it a little then jump in!

art journal - here comes the sun/subtle

Here are two more page layouts in my art journal adventure.  the prompts this time are here comes the sun and use subtle colors.  for the sun layout I used my blending tool with distress inks....basically the colors of the sun....yellows and orange...after that I did some stenciling and doodling and of course ..... you know me the die heart stamper sooooooooo I stamped a sun and saying.
sun layout details:
stamps - MFP stamps
stencils - wendy, dylusions and crafters

For my layout with subtle colors again I blended colors with my distress inks.  next I used a couple of TH stencils then stamped owl, sayings and that fun stitched block.  to finish it I taped on a piece of burlap ribbon which I pulled apart a bit for more texture....was going for a nest effect.
subtle layout details:
stamps - Stampers' Anon.
TH stencils

year of the rooster art journal-door

hear is my art journal page layout for the prompt - feature a door.  I took it literally and made a door out of stamped cardstock then added some chickens inside the door when you open it.  for these pages I just slapped on dylusions paints with a brayer so it also gives the background some texture.  see more of my art journal pages here.
---got this door idea from Stamp & Scrap with Frenchie

Yellow/trees and a question for all of you out there!!!

***keeping this post on top for a few days in hopes of getting answers. ***
+++please scroll down for newest posts+++
I haven't done anything in either of my art journals lately so over at Dylusions facebook the challenge for this month is yellow and trees.  I had this yellow page in my small painty journal so I thought why not do something!
I have a couple of questions for all of you out there:
1.  have you ever bought clear stamp sets?
2.  clear stamp set:  are they so stuck on the plastic that it hurts your hand to pull the images off??????????  well, this happened to me with the stamp set I used on this page.  the image are stuck on there so tight that I feel like I'm going to rip the image but so far with the ones I was able to pull off they stayed in tact. Have any of you had this problem and if so how did you rectify it???  let me know in the comment section.  thanks!

colors today are BRIGHT!

yes, bright colors for facebook challenge this month.  Started this layout out at home first with Dyan Reaveley paints in my small journal and also did the stencils at home.  Went off in the wild blue yonder to visit family in the South and brought some stamped images also from Dyan's line of stamps and some rub ons to finish off the pages.  Did some outlining around the stenciled squares.  Then wrote "we use numbers every day in our lives to complete the challenge.

snowflakes journal pages

I haven't done anything in my large journal in a couple of months so decided to join in the challenge over on the dylusions challenge facebook page.  the theme is snowflakes and blue.  I used dylusions sprays for the background, stencils and did a lot of snowflake doodles with different white pens.  stamped and cut out dylusions houses and face then glued to the pages.  stamped snowflake dreams with dylusions alphabet.  added some stickles for sparkle.

dylusions fun with friends

Yesterday went to a friend's house to play with dylusions sprays,
paints and stencils.  There were four of us playing and we had fun getting inky.  we started out in morning spraying lots of journal pages, tags and full sheet of cardstock.  wish I had taken more pictures of all the work/art my
friends created.  Leslie was working on her small dylusions journal
for her upcoming trip....her pages our done in colors for Africa.  Brenda was just having fun spraying all the bright colors and Roberta did a lot of blue/greens that will make some great water scenes which she likes to do.
Mine are just all over the map because I didn't have a plan.  We
took a break for lunch to have a delicious salad Leslie made for us to enjoy and along with that Brenda brought some orange watermelon for us to try...everything was yummy.
After lunch we got busy again with all our sprays, paints and
stencils.  Now before I said I didn't have a plan but in the long run I
kinda did......I wanted to use stencils and stamps I didn't own for more variety in both my large and small journals.  click on pics to enlarge and find out who did what.  enjoy!

Diamonds!

This month dylusions challenge facebook page is to use the colors yellow and purple plus diamonds.  I looked for diamond shapes in my stencils and found the one from dylusions plus the diamond stencil/mask so used them.  couldn't find any diamond images in all my stamps so I just cut some out of this glitter paper I had bought.  Looking through my stamps I saw the Tim Holtz crazy birds stamp set and she looked like a sideways diamond shape so add her to the mix on my two journal pages in my small paint journal by Dyan Reaveley .

I am a limited edition

This is a limited edition!  don't think I could draw her again as good as it came out.  I can't believe how my faces are evolving as I do a new one.....each one is my favorite at the time I draw her and this one is no exception.  I sketched her then colored her with pastel pencils....gotta love pastel pencils they are so forgiving.  since this is in my art journal.....the background is dylusions ink sprays and if you look close you can see the stencils I used on this page.  I do like the way the figure stencil is just a shadow in the background.....worked out better then I expected.

Legs, legs, legs!

Just a fun journal page with Dyan's  dylusions inks, stencils and those leg stamps!  the saying is an old stamp I've had for years by PostModernDesign...not sure if they are even still in business.  anyway I stamped it on white cardstock then drew lines around sections of the saying and cut them out.

my first face

I drew my first face!  not too bad for my first attempt.  I watched a video by Dina Wakley who made it look easy so I decided to try it.  not too shabby.  I like it which surprises me.  Dina shows and gives a few easy suggestions to draw a face and that is what I did.  I drew this face in my large dylusions journal over a page that I had done with Dyan's sprays and stencils.  keep in mind this is just a pencil sketched drawing.  I think I will be doing this again.
