Turning stamped images into paintings

Turning stamped images into paintings

I took a couple of Dina Wakley classes at Papercraft Clubhouse in Old Saybrook last month.

First class I took was called Turning stamped images into paintings.

Above pages from my art journal I worked on in class.  Used lots of paint, collage pictures, printed tissue papers, stencils, and a little with gloss sprays.

A couple of days after I got home from class, I got out my art journal, and played using the techniques I learned in class.  As you can see I used the green, and blue paints.  Funny how I used the same colors as in class ... at home, too.  I think I need to get different colors soon.

Thanks for stopping by.  Come back again soon.

Mixed Media w/Friends #3 & #4

 Mixed Media w/Friends (MMwF)

MMwF #3 by sue - stamps used: Catherine Pooler Call Me stamp/die set

For the background I swiped on some Adirondak acrylic paints, which I have had in my stash for years.  In altering these jumbo playing cards we are trying to use up our stashes ... my friend and myself who are making these cards and trading them between ourselves.  On top of the paint I added some gold foil and gold thread then glued on a pre-made cardboard tag.  The doily and phone dies were adhered to the tag.

MMwF #4 by sue - stamps used: Stampin' Up Poppies, Altenew leaves, Make an Impression saying

I had a left over piece of Herringbone technique so I used that for the base.  Again using up things from my stash, I added a chipboard star that I covered with liquid pearl paint and small beads. stamped and fussy cut the flowers but the leaves had a die to cut them out. Just adhered everything to the base card to finish it.

MMwF #3 and #4 by Josette

Josette swiped paints on her cards to make fun ocean and sky looking backgrounds.  For her ocean theme she stamped the images directly over the painted background.  For her sky background she fussy cut flowers in a jar and punched out little dragonflies to add to her card.

If you want to see more of these Mixed Media w/friends cards just type it in the search bar in my side bar.

Art journal - Dina Wakley style

Here are some photos of my art journal after taking a class by Dina Wakley blog on June 1st.  I still have a lot to learn with painting these faces but I will keep trying.  I have been using old paints I had in my stash and they don't work exactly like Dina's paints we used in class.  I really need to get some of her paints because they just flowed and blended so nicely together.

left page - hand drawn face to emphasize highlights and shadows.  small face is a pic of the one Dina drew and the big one is the one I did really fast in class just to remember.
right side - face on tissue paper and glued into art journal.  painted in class with Dina's paints and stenciled around the face for fun.

me and Dina

left page - this face was on tissue paper then glued to art journal page.  painted at home with various paints in my stash.
right side - used scribble sticks and lots of water on canvas page.  will collage on it soon.

This is just the start ... more to come.
thanks for stopping by.  come back again soon.

Art Journal adventure - silhouette

stamps:  MFP fairy and sayings, Hot Potatoes mushrooms, chandelier, MoonRose woman saying, SU be yourself
stencils Ranger Dyan Reaveley
This time for the prompt of silhouette I did a two page layout but did the pages differently so they are separate from each other.  the fairy page is all stamped then blended with distress ink. the actual fairy stamp is an outline image...I just took a sharpie to make it solid.  the woman page is stenciled with Dyan Reaveley green and purple paints then doodled around each figure.  the chandelier and sayings are stamped.
I'm having fun with this journal adventure....as long as the prompts keep coming I will try to continue.

Art Journal adventure - text underneath

This is my layout for text underneath.  I did it this way because before I used the masks and added the black paint it was just too busy for me ... but now I like it.  You can still see the stamped words underneath in the masked areas and a little under the black paint to.....that is in person you can see through the black paint.  this week the prompt is all about time so guess I'll think about it a little then jump in!

year of the rooster art journal-door

hear is my art journal page layout for the prompt - feature a door.  I took it literally and made a door out of stamped cardstock then added some chickens inside the door when you open it.  for these pages I just slapped on dylusions paints with a brayer so it also gives the background some texture.  see more of my art journal pages here.
