Booooooooo

 Booooooooo

These Halloween cards are a little different for me ... I say that because of the color scheme.

dies used:  TH Sizzix Fright Night and Gothic Protraits

I had the backgrounds done and laying out on my table, along with a bunch of dies I had die cut ... so ... why not use them together.  And that is how these cards came about.  Also when I stenciled these backgrounds ... guess what ... you guessed it ... those color ink pads were out on my table, so there you have it.  You could say I was being creative or just lazy.  what do you think creative? or lazy?  Either way I like them with all their quirks of color and theme.

More on Halloween

 More on Halloween

Can't help myself so here are more Halloween cards.

stencils/dies used:  Waffle Flower big moon layering stencil set, TH word dies/stencil

On the Fright card I did the big moon layering stencil first.  The #1 stencil lays down the background color, #2 does layer of moon, #3 adds the last layer for the moon.  The wicked card I blended greens and blue inks.  After blending colors I did the big moon stencil.  Next added bats with Tim Holt stencil, last added the wicked word die.

stamps/dies used:  Stampers Anonymous, TH word die & stencils

Again I blended lots of color with green, blue, and yellow inks. The fright card has two of TH stencils.  Trick or treat uses stamps, and bat stencil.

Did color blending with a couple of blue inks this time.  Added bats, and rib cage with stencils.  I even splashed on some water to make the water spots.  Last mounted boo word.

Tags on Halloween

 Tags on Halloween

stamps/dies used:  Stampers Anonymous, TH dies

When I to change it up I make tags.  For these tags I blended lots of darker color inks for that dreary look.  Stamped over all the dark color with black ink or  Catherine Pooler Rose gold or Platinum ink pads.  They are pigment inks so they take a little longer to dry.  When I made these tags I was at a crop, and didn't have my heat tool ... so I had to set them aside to dry on their own for a few hours.

stamps/stencils used:  Stampers Anonymous, TH word die, TH stencil

No color blending on the above two tags ...just stenciled with TH pumpkins layering stencils.  Then stamped and fussy cut out the ghosts, because they do not have dies.  Gotta love "ghost hug" saying.

Do you like to make tags?

In my last post I asked a question about the purple paper behind the trees on the card.  The answer is purple vellum.  I found some of it in my stash of papers.  You never know what you find till you start moving things around.

Frightful Halloween

 Frightful Halloween

dies used:  Tim Holtz, Stampin' Up

My friends know I like to make Halloween cards so, this year is no different.

dies used:  Tim Holtz, Stampin' Up

I made a bunch of these cards using TH dies, and SU tree die.  As you can see some of them I sponged color on trees ... others I left white.  Since I made multiples of this design I'm not showing all of them.  I'll start mailing them out probably next week.  Here's a question for you:  Do you know what type of paper is the purple behind the trees?  I'll leave this question up till my next post.

Thanks for stopping by.  Come back soon. Feel free to leave a message and let me know if you like to make Halloween cards.

Fly away with Mary Poppins/video

 Fly away with Mary Poppins

Actually in my card Mary Poppins is sliding away on my ribbon slider card.

stamps/supplies:  MFP saying Up, up..., Sizzix TH The Park die set

I'm call this character Mary Poppins but, I guess, legally you can't name these dies because she is licensed by Disney.  The die set is called The Park but she does make you think of Mary Poppins.  Anyways I made an old favorite moving card that is a Ribbon Slider card.

Instructions:

 1.  Make any size card that works for you with a layer for the sliding character.

2. Cut 2 parallel lines 1/4" to 1/2" apart for the moving mechanism on the layer that will have the character. Make
the length of cut to accommodate your card.
3. Cut ribbon twice the size of your card. Cut strip of cardstock to wrap,
and tape ribbon that will slide back & forth on your card.  The ribbon gets tape to the sliding strip only. Make 2
more strip wraps, and tape each one on ends of parallel lines with ribbon
threaded through but do not tape ribbon to strips. These will be end
stoppers.

4. Tape cardstock with sliding mechanism that you stamped scene to base
card.  On this card I cut out a cloud template to create the background.
5. Use mounting tape to attach your image on movable strip which will go
around parallel lines.
6. Pull your ribbon and see what happens!
Here's a short video I did a few years ago showing how the ribbon slider works.
Another basic card with same The Park die set.

Double Dutch door cards

 Double Dutch Door cards

stamps used:  MFP stamps

This is a card design that has been around for years, but this time I used 12" x 12" cardstock.  Using 12" x 12" cardstock means you only need one sheet of cardstock instead of two pieces to create this card design.
See template diagram below:

basic measurements:
base card - 11" x 10"
score on 10" side at 2 1/2" and 7 1/2"
score on 11" side at 7" and 3 1/2" on either side.
Cut away the two long sections.  This will form an upside down "T".  The two smaller bottom sections will fold in to create the doors.  Once you cut away the long sections, and fold on the score lines ... you will see how easily this card comes together.
Here is another card I create:
stamps used:  Unity stamp co. and Stamper's Anon. moon layering masks/stencils by TH

If you look closely to the pictures, you can also see the envelopes   (5" x 7") I created.  I made them with my envelope maker.

For my layout with subtle colors again I blended colors with my distress inks.  next I used a couple of TH stencils then stamped owl, sayings and that fun stitched block.  to finish it I taped on a piece of burlap ribbon which I pulled apart a bit for more texture....was going for a nest effect.

February tag remix

This month over on Blog | Tim Holtz ... tag of the month is mono-printing and embossing paste so here are two tags I got with these two techniques.  I used TH shattered glass stencil which wasn't the best choice but hey, live and learn.....I just went with it after I printed it on the tag with the gun toting lady.  There was still ink on the stencil and my mat so I spritzed them both with water and printed another tag.  I forgot how much I like doing the scrunched up ribbon that was shown in the mono-printing instructions...have to do that more often.  will be posting these two tags over on onelittletag challenge on Facebook.

Metal - chalkboard tag

Had fun creating this tag because I got out that roll of silver sticky back tape I've had for at least a couple of years.  You know it was one of those things that I just had to have because someone was doing wonderful techniques with it then it faded out.
This tag is a big one that I had laying out on my table so ... why not use it!  Stuck strips of the silver tape on top and bottom of tag then ran it thru Big Kick with embossing folder.  Next got out black soot distress paint dabber and went to town distressing it or as Tim Holtz calls it industrious metal technique.  After that ripped piece of black cardstock and stamped with white pigment ink for the chalkboard effect.  Fun to bring back old techniques.

dragonfly tag

Here is my version of Tim Holtz September tag.  I didn't have all the same supplies so I challenged myself to find similar things in my stash.  He used clear embossing paste and I used white...he used frost paper and I used vellum...I do have Ranger alcohol inks so did use them on my tag.  Oh yeah, Tim used a swirl design stencil which I didn't have so I used his speckle stencil...he used butterfly stamps and I used a dragonfly stamp but all in all I like my tag. I used a bunch of pieces of ribbons that I wrapped around my fingers to make a fun loose bow for the top of my tag.  what do you think?

Diamonds!

This month dylusions challenge facebook page is to use the colors yellow and purple plus diamonds.  I looked for diamond shapes in my stencils and found the one from dylusions plus the diamond stencil/mask so used them.  couldn't find any diamond images in all my stamps so I just cut some out of this glitter paper I had bought.  Looking through my stamps I saw the Tim Holtz crazy birds stamp set and she looked like a sideways diamond shape so add her to the mix on my two journal pages in my small paint journal by Dyan Reaveley .

Background Check for day 3 design break

Day 3 at Background Check we were supposed to make cards out of
backgrounds from day 1 and 2......so far here are my cards from watercoloring backgrounds.  On the first card with the yellow, red and blue I used Pro Art Watercolors in plastic tubes....found these in my stash.  Pretty sure I bought them years ago (probably over 10 yrs. ago) when I was enamored with Mary Jo McGraw at the time she was working with Judi-kins.  Hey Mary Jo if you read this please tell me why I bought these watercolors.  The other two backgrounds I used distress inks.

more Background Check

Please scroll down for MFPStamps blog hop or click here
Here are some more backgrounds from the Background Check online class I'm doing this week.  the two samples on top are distress inks and a background stamp with VersaMark ink on top.  looks much better in person....the VersaMark ink soaks into the distress inks and has the effect of bleaching.  the sample on the bottom was supposed to be a baby wipe technique but mine were too dry so I ended up just spritzing water through the stencil for another faux bleaching effect.  next step for that one you are supposed to run it through Big Kick with the stencil for an embossing folder look...really need more practice top make that happen.

July tag

Here's my interpretation of Tim's tag for July which is mainly covering tag with decorative paper then water coloring with distress markers.  couldn't resist using one of the crazy birds again for my tag this month.  don't have all the markers so used what I had so that is why this bird is red....she kinda looks embarrassed doesn't she?  added some Ranger Glossy Accents on her eyes to make them pop more than they already do.  I don't sew sooooo I used Ranger black enamel accents to make faux stitches around my tag.  I know I've mentioned this before that I don't really go into all the metal embellishments so I just got out some of my TH tissue tape to add to the top of the tag then just faux stitched over it.  couldn't resist going into my funny sayings drawer and found this one that I thought worked.

Bird Crazy!!! on plaid!

Had fun making this tag because first I made a fun plaid with a stencil, used a stamped saying I've had for years and used one of the fun TH Bird Crazy birds.  those birds are too much fun and easy to color....first stamped the bird.....got out my Ranger blending tools with Ranger distress inks and just went to town.  easy peasy!  I don't have any of the metal embellishments (really not me) so I got out a roll of burlap ribbon and copper tape to use on my tag.

collage tag

I had fun making several collage tags that will possibly go out in the mail today.....all depends on whether our mail carrier can get down our street.  It's snowing again!  Oh well, that's mother nature for you.  Created these tags with the general instructions from this post on TH blog.  naturally I didn't have all the same supplies but still think they came out all right.  no felt or sewing machine so I made a 3D punched out heart then cut up some of TH paper stash paper for the words and pattern paper.  check out the dictionary paper that is from an old dictionary a friend gave me when she was cleaning out her stash.  I use it when ever I need a paper definition just have to be careful because it's so old it rips very easily.

First tag of the new year

Here it is a new year and here I am with all good intentions to make monthly tags from Tim Holtz blog.  So let's get started and see how many months I actually create.
On to my tag:  first I glued some music tissue paper to my tag.  Added color with dylusion sprays and blended on some distress stains...let that all dry.  Next got out my stash of grunge board pieces (want to use up things before buying new) and found these three little splats so put glossy accents on them and sprinkled on some distress glitter in red and gold flower soft...let them dry completely.  don't have TH words so I went to my notebooks of stamps and found these block word stamps from Zettiology.  how many of you out there remember that stamp company?  are they still in business?  back to tag....stamped and cut out words and adhered them to my tag along with the grunge board splats.  added some ribbon and twine and there you have it ... a finished tag.

It's August time for another tag

here's my take on Tim Holtz tag for August.  looked in my drawers of stamps and came across this little Mr. Peanut and decided to put him to use along with the SU Fairy Tales stamp.  Had a jar of distress weathered wood and mustard seed embossing powder so those are the colors I used and for the stencils I used one of TH big numbers then the other is a piece of sequins waste.  Oh yes, also used TH speckles stencil...not sure of the names of TH products  but I'm too lazy to go look in my draw.  blame it on getting over migraine.  a lou-lou of one...it even stopped me from going over to a friends' house just my unfortunate thing.  Just wanted to mention that I have decided this past year to use what I have if possible so with that in mind I went into my baggie stashes and found that dyno laugh, brads with the "pointers" and of course lots of scraps of ribbons.
