Christmas bookmarks

 Christmas bookmarks

Yes, Christmas in May.  Ok, I know you have heard of Christmas in July.....I thought I would start a little earlier with these bookmarks.

Above is slimline card.
Above is 5" x 7" card
Here are a couple of bookmarks in a pocket on a card.  The Merry Christmas bookmark is on a slimline card.  The Santa hat is on a 5"x7" card.  Basically what I did was stamp the images with gold inks, so I did have to wait to let them dry.  While I was waiting I made a 5"x7" card for one, and a 7" x 8" slimline card for the other.  Used lots of self sticking gems to add more sparkle to these cards.  For the pockets I just cut cardstock, and added it with foam mounting tape at the bottom of the card. Leaving the top open to create the pocket.
Santa hat bookmark has a green layer instead of gold, but still stamped in the gold pigment ink.

Winter birthday

 Winter birthday

I do like my layering stencil sets, and this one is perfect for slimline cards.

This layering stencil set is named Christmas tree truck, but I decided to make it a winter birthday card.  I did this by using a birthday saying, that I could do part on the front of the card, then second part inside the card.  In order to do this, I just put a piece of scotch tape on the part of the saying I didn't want to ink up.  Remove the scotch tape, then stamp saying.  Next place scotch tape on second part of saying, that you don't want to ink up before stamping.
When I use this stencil next time I will change up the color of the truck.  Just thought a red truck would be good for a winter card.
Measurements I use for slimline cards.

Poinsettia

 Poinsettia

stamps used:  MFP poinsettia, sayings from various stamp companies

I actually got out my embossing powder!  Haven't done that in years, but had to go back to basics for these holiday cards.

Basic instructions

1. Stamped poinsettia image with clear embossing ink.

2.  Sprinkle gold embossing powder over stamped image. Heat with embossing tool till melted.

3. Make a mask with masking paper or post it note.  Place mask over image.

4.  Add darker color of cardstock over masked image with any blending tool.  Remove mask.  See the image pop!

5.  Stamp and emboss saying.  Adhere to card.

6.  Adhere stamped layer to gold metallic cardstock, then adhere to base card.

I created slimline and A2 card for this technique.

Slimline cards

 Slimline cards

This my May creative crew swap card.  Kept it simple because, to me the whole idea this month was to focus on the slimline card design.

stencil set used:  Unity stamp co. - tulip stamp/layering stencil set

This is an easy layering stencil set to use on a card.  Besides the stencil set I used a sending hugs die, also from the same Unity stamp company.  This company has branched out from rubber stamps to making stencils, and dies lately.

Multi color tulips

 Multi color Tulips

stamps/stencils used:  Unity stamp co.

Here are more tulip cards using Unity Layering Tulip stencils.  This is a three layer stencil that makes beautiful tulips, at least, in my opinion.  This time I used the stencils just as they were intended to make slimline cards.  Here you can see I did two different color tulips just because I could.  After I finished the stenciling, I got out my slimline dies, and die cut all the layers to fit onto the slimline card.  I did resize these slimline cards a little just to show off the image more.  Slimline cards can be just about any size you want, mainly, because you can make envelopes to fit them.  I use my envelope maker to create all kind of sizes of envelopes for my cards.

Tulip slimline card

 Tulip slimline card

stamp/stencils used: Unity stamp co.

stamp/stencils used:  Unity stamp co.
Here is a new idea for Unity stamp company ..... Matching stamp and stencils.  There are other stamp companies out there that have been doing this but it's a first for Unity stamp company.

basic instructions:

1.  stamp image.

2.  place stencil over stamped image and sponge on color.

Or

1.  place stencil on cardstock.

2.  sponge color

Simple, right?  Actually it is.  I used the stamp and stencils, there are three layering stencils for this stamp image, for the top slimline card.  For my bottom slimline card I just used the three layering stencils.  Two distinctive looks, don't you think?  I haven't made up my mind which I like better, yet.

I made slimline cards this time just to show off the full stamp, but I plan on making A2 size cards soon.  Most slimline cards fit into #10 size envelopes, but like all cards they are subject to change.  As stampers we do like to change things up sometimes.

3D layering card with video

stamps used:  Stampin' Up Forever Fern
3D embossing folder: Altenew stamp co.

Yes, I'm still having fun with SU Forever Fern stamp/die set.  These slimline cards are for my local creative card crew group.  Gone are the days when we would meet up for lunch and swap our cards, but it is what it is now.  We still see each other once a month in a zoom meeting so that's nice.  Ok, back to my card...the theme for March is 3D layering so what better stamp set for layering than Forever Fern.  I did a slimline card because I wanted to also use a 3D embossing folder which has an opening at the top fold.  This opening works great to feed a piece of 3" x 8" card through it to make a continuous pattern.  This was a fun discovery I made when I got this 3D embossing folder.
Check out this short video I made to show how I did this technique. When you watch this video on my you tube channel please give it a thumbs up if you like it.

Pine cone slimline with video

 Pine cone slimline

stamps used:  Catherine Pooler stamps, dies and inks

Slimline cards are all the rage right now, but I can remember making them years ago, then we called them something like tall cards.

Measurement:

base card - 6 1/2" x 8 1/4"  folded 3 1/4" x 8 1/4"

purple layer - 3 1/8" x 8"

ribbon wave 3D folder (Altenew) - 7 3/8" x 2 3/8"

Check back here for details how I made the embossing folder fit the length of the card. Here is another slimline card with embossed layer.  I used a couple of the new date ink colors from Catherine Pooler stamp company.

Happy Valentine's day and Anniversary

 Happy Valentine's and Anniversary

stamps used:  Stampin' Up stamps and dies

These slimline cards are out of my color scheme zone, but fun to change up the colors.

Measurements -

base card:  7 1/8" x 8 1/2"  folded 3 1/2" x 8 1/2"

white layer with 3D embossing (Altenew) folder - 3" x 8 1/2"

For this card, I did the same technique with the 3D embossing folder as with the cards in this post.  The reddish brown layer are really an illusion ..... actually I just adhered 1/8" strips of cardstock to each side of the embossed layer with all the dies.  Stamped the saying on a piece of scrap white cardstock, layered onto reddish brown layer then mounted to card.  Added some self sticking gems for sparkle.

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone but Happy Anniversary to my friend.  shhhhhh don't tell her this card is for her and her husband. 😉😊

Crooked dolphins

 Crooked Leaping dolphins

stamps used:  Blue Knight rubber stamps and cloud stencil

Still on the slimline bandwagon but they can be just about any sizes.   All my slimline cards do not fit into #10 business envelopes, so I get out my envelope maker to create the perfect size envelope.

Measurements -

base card:  7 1/8" x 8 1/2"  folded 3 1/2" x 8 1/2"

pattern paper layer: 3 3/8" x 8 3/8"

cloud stamped layer: 3" x 8"

crooked layer:  depends on size of image and where it is placed on card.

For these two cards I decided to do monochromatic ... basically all the same color.

Slimline cards

stamps used:  Altenew stamp co. and 3D embossing folders

Still having fun making slimline cards, and here are two using Altenew Camellia BAF, 3D embossing folders Ribbon Waves and Swirl Motif.  The fun thing I discovered with these new 3D embossing folder are they have a cut out slot at the top of the folder where it folds in half.  What I did was cut out a slimline layer, then run the layer in the 3D folder, BUT the fun thing I discovered is ... if you slide that layer through the cut out slot you can have the design fit the slimline layer!!!!!  Don't know if that is what it was intended for but it was a fun, and exciting discovery for me.  If you are interested in me making a little video with this technique discovery ... please leave me a comment on this post.

Darling Rose

Darling Rose

All three of these cards are slimline cards which back in the day, if I remember we used to call them tall & skinny cards.  Well, you know how it goes what is old is new again.  Isn't it great!  I like it when an old idea comes back with a fresh look or name.  Slimline cards can be just about any size, just like note cards.  I myself prefer to make them a little smaller than what is considered normal slimline cards ... but that is just me.

stamps used:  Altenew stamps/dies

Measurements:
base card - 8 1/2" x 7"  folded card - 8 1/2" x 3 1/2"

I did a lot of bending of colors on all my cards ... mainly because that is one of my favorite ways to add color to my cards.
There is a card challenge over at the Altenew blog.  You are challenged to make a card that you are inspired by this photo
I took the colors as my inspiration along with adding a flower.
