 More Butterfly split negatives

I tell you, I just can't get enough of this split negative technique.  This Seraphim wings stamp from Unity stamp co. just works so well with this technique.

stamp/supplies used:  Unity Seraphim wings, Catherine Pooler inks

Instructions:

1.  Cut one piece of white cardstock and one piece of colored cardstock the same size. 

2.  Place cardstock in Misti stamping positioner.  Stamp butterfly with color inks on white cardstock.  On colored cardstock use tone on tone color.

3.  Cut each stamped butterfly cards in half or a bit more or less.  You will have two pieces of stamped white card, and colored stamped card.  

4.  Add glue to a scrap piece of cardstock, then glue one of the pieces of cards with butterfly to half of it.  Match up the opposite butterfly to the one that is glued to the scrap piece of cardstock.  You should have a white card, and a colored card together to form the split negative image.

5. Next what I like to do is die cut out the split negative butterfly with a die shape.  In this case I used Unity stamp co. deckle edge rectangles die set.  

6.  Adhere split negative piece to A2 card.

As you can see I cannot stop making this type of card.  Maybe I should find another image.  What do you think?

stamps used: Unity Seraphim Wings stamp set

This is another technique that makes two for one cards.  This is also an oldie but goodie technique, that I like to fall back into when I want to make multiple of cards.

Instructions:

1.  Cut one piece of cream cardstock and one piece of colored cardstock the same size.

2.  Place cardstock in Misti stamping positioner.  Stamp butterfly with black ink.  Do this for both pieces of cardstock.

3.  Cut each stamped butterfly in half.  You will have two pieces of stamped cream card, and colored stamped card.  For my cards the piece are 2 1/2" x 3 3/4".  

4.  Cut piece 5 1/4" x 4" cream and color cardstock.  Cut one of these piece in half and adhere to full 5 1/4" x 4" cardstock.

5.  Adhere opposite color of halved butterflies to 5 1/4"x4" cardstock.  Then layer onto A2 card.

Here are a couple more Butterfly Split Negative cards. 

On this one I used pink cards and ink.

On purple card again I used black ink.

Split negative butterflies

 stamps used:  Catherine Pooler wings of joy stamp set

This technique is called Split Negative ... mainly because you cut (split) the card in half then match it up with a second color.  Doing this technique you get two cards for the price of one....which is always a good thing.

basic instructions:

1.  stamp image onto two different colors of cardstock.  Using a stamp positioner is a good tool for this technique to keep the image in the same position.

2.  cut one of the cards in half but keep one in tact.

3.  adhere the cut half to the full card .... matching up the image.  sometimes you need to trim a little to make the card even.

Split negative

Split negative technique is a fun and easy technique but depending on the colors you use a little hard on the eyes.  It's like matching up a checkerboard piece.  You eyes go back and forth to the different sizes and colors.  clear as mud, right? check out the picture (click on pic to enlarge) of my cards and you will understand what I'm saying.  Anyway it's a fun technique with dramatic effect.  Oh, yeah I forgot to tell you this is a two for one technique!  another words you make two cards at a time but they are opposite in color.
