I'm not sure what the actual name of this style card is so I'm just calling it a Flip card with a card inside.  Anyone out there who knows or can think up a better name please let me know in the comment section.
Measurements:
black card =  5 1/2" x 6 1/4"  -  score at 2"
black layers =  cut two at 3" x 3 1/2" 
orange card =  5 1/4" x 8"  -  score at 4"  -  folded card for inside  -  tape to black base card.
white layers =  cut two at 2 3/4" x 3 1/4"  -  stamped pieces for front and middle inside piece.
inside white layer =  3 3/4" x 5"
To create the white moon I punched out a circle and used it as a mask then stippled color around it.
Yes, I got out my stipple brushes ..... an old favorite tool of mine that I haven't used in ages.  So get out an old favorite tool you haven't used in a while and bring it back to life!

art journal adventure wk #42 puzzled #43 outward from the center

I have been lacking in showing my art journal so here are a couple of layouts.

Left side theme is puzzled.  I used an old tool called Tiles template and yes, this one is of a puzzle.  I laid out the plastic puzzle piece then one by one removed a piece and stippled color.....till all the pieces of the template were colored on the page.  I stamped a big octopus with grey ink, saying with black ink and shells with green ink to finish the page.

Right side theme is outward from the center so I just drew a spiral starting in the center out to the page edge.  not fancy just done.

Art Journal wk#33 - fairy tales

We are at week #33 already and I'm actually caught up just haven't post all of them, yet.  I have two more to post after this one to be up to date...will do that this week so you will be bombarded with my art journal pages for the rest of the week.  

week #33 prompt was Fairy Tales or mythology

I choice to do the Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.  I stamped my images in VersaFine onyx black ink then got out my trusty stipple brush to add some color around the images.  simple but I think effective.

Art Journal wk#29 - list

week #29 - feature a list

stamps used:  MFP

This prompt made me think of Santa so that is what I did for feature a list.  I first hand drew the scroll then stamped sayings inside the scroll .... for to mention I did use my Prisma color pencils to color the ends of the scroll and the stamped Santa.  the background is just colors stippled with my old stand bys....my stipple brushes.

Dusting can be fun

You heard me dusting can be fun if it's with stipple brush dusters and ink.  lol!  got out my color duster stipple brushes ... just because I haven't used them in years and they were collecting dust so I dusted them off and did some ink dusting.  what do you think ..... enough with the word dust?  teeheehee   on with my card ...... I cut a piece of white cardstock, masked off a moon, then just dusted (sorry still with the dusting) the ink onto my card with a sweeping motion.  just can't get away with the cleaning references.  Ooops, forgot to mention I stamped the images first with Staz-on black ink.  remove the moon mask, added glitter for a sparkly moon and last but not least I added some highlights with white gel pen.  Taped the stamped piece to kraft and dark brown layer then onto another kraft layer that I embossed with a dots folder but only on the bottom half then layered that onto a dark brown note card.  inside has birthday saying and a little more dusting with the cattails in the corner.

Dust away

Doing some holiday dusting here ... color dusting that is!  got out
my color dusters which are a type of stipple brushes ... just stubby with "lighter" bristles.  on a piece of white cardstock I first stamped my images with Staz-on black ink because it dries fast and wouldn't smear when I dusted on the color inks.  so I took the color duster and dusted or sweeped on the blue ink in the center of the card first, then the brown inks.  yes, there are three brown inks blended together on the top and bottom of the card.  next remove the moon mask and add glitter for a sparkly moon.  added highlights with white gel pen.  Last just layered onto cardstocks (you know I like my layers) that I cut out and embossed with dot folder.

Lighthouses

I'm bringing back an oldie but goodie called Grid technique.  Now if you remember this technique can be done in several different ways but for today I'm doing it my favorite way...with stipple brushes.  Stipple brushes are a tool that have been in my stash for twenty years and I always fall back on them because stipple brushes are a stamper's best friend!  They are a tool that can blend inks in different ways and the best reason is they can cover up mistakes ..... like if you get an inky fingerprint on your project ... you know you've done that ... well, just get out old faithful stipple brush ... tap, tap, tap and viola!!! a mistake is now embraced into your project.  As I always say, "there are no mistakes in stamping just happy accidents!"  Please go to Just For Fun Rubber Stamps blog for stamp details.

Faux tearing tutorial

FAUX TEARING TECHNIQUE

A fun technique that uses ordinary post-it notes to create a fun and easy layer.

Supplies:

Post-it notes
Stipple brushes
Stamps – MFPaHC Wealthy Fish

Inks – Ranger Adirondack stonewash, denim & lettuce

Instructions:

1. Rip post-notes and stick to 5 x 3 ¾” cream cardstock.

2. Stipple Adirondack stonewash ink inside the ripped post-it notes…about halfway across.

3. Stipple Adirondack denim inside ripped post-it notes the rest of the way across card.

4. With the ripped post-it notes still in place stamp the fish once with Adirondack denim ink then remove post-notes and stamp the fish one more time.

5. Stamp the bamboo with Adirondack lettuce ink in the middle of the two stamped fish.

6. Stamp saying with same denim ink in the top left corner.

7. Outline the edge of the stamped card with Marvy oriental blue marker then layer onto 5 ¼ “ x 4 cream cardstock.

8. Layer stamped card onto navy blue top fold note card.

9. Stamp bamboo with lettuce ink on inside 5 ¼ “ x 4 cream card then layer inside navy blue top fold card.

Bandana technique

 Not sure if I ever posted these cards with the bandana technique. Did these cards awhile ago.  The bandana technique is basically just stamping image, adding color then highlighting with white gel pen.  It's just a fun way to add doodles to a card. If nothing else they are colorful cards and pretty sure used stipple brushes for color.  All images are by Stamps by Lasting Impressions with Panache  

Faux layers - yes more

 Can't help myself......more faux layers!  Had fun bringing this technique back to life in a private class I taught on Friday.  We all had fun getting inky using stipple brushes and sponges.  Haven't emptied out my class suitcase, yet so I'll have to try to use my memory for stamp companies and inks.  O.k. ole brain don't fail me now.  lol!  For the wanted cards all images are from Stampin' Up.  Inks on all cards are Ranger Adirondack butterscotch, lettuce, cranberry, raisin, stonewash blue and Archival jet black.  On the wanted cards I used my all time favorite tool --- stipple brushes and on tea card sponges.  The three teacup image I believe is from Stampington & Company  if I'm wrong I'll correct it later. Isn't that a great tea saying?   Also went back to basic edging the card layer with Krylon gold leafing pen.  we had a lot of fun in class.....also made an embossed bookmark, gate fold card and multi-color embossed cod card.  want to see them?  if you do just leave me a comment and I'll show them later this week.

Get Griddy

Here is my take on Rogue Redhead Designs blog "let's get griddy" challenge.
  Learned this technique years ago watching a demo at a convention where the demo artist use post it notes and Marvy square ink pads.  I was never a big fan of those ink pads but way back when loved my stipple brushes so got them out!  So post it notes and stipple brushes in hand I made this grid card using Rogue Redhead Designs Relish Reading stamp set.  Also got out my trusty Ranger Adirondack ink pads!  yes, going old school here and it is fun to go back to my old ways.

Hero Arts Pairs challenge #4

Another week has gone by so it's time to share what Debbie and I are doing this week......masking!  Got inspiration here:  Hero Arts Cardmaking Idea: Flying By To Say Hi  and here:  Hero Arts Cardmaking Idea: Thank You Teacher

Take a look at my card.  Unfortunately my printer isn't working so I couldn't scan it, had to take a picture with camera.  I'm not a very good photographer but I keep trying. 
I do like the way this card came out.  First I punched out a circle but used the negative of the punch out.  Added color with my stipple brushes, haven't used them in ages since I discovered blending tool with sponge.  Removed the negative or reverse mask and put the punched out circle mask over the colored sun.  Stippled some  'The Ranger Ink stonewash and stream Adirondack inks.  Oh yes, forget to tell you used Adirondack butterscotch and terra cotta inside the sun.  Ripped a small piece of Tim Holtz new music tissue tape and placed it on the right side of the sun.  Stamped Hero Arts bird just at the bottom of the sun and colored it in with Prisma color pencils.  Colored in some grass with some more of the Prisma color pencils then stamped Hero Arts dandelion three times and thinking of you with black ink.  On dark blue cardstock punched two corners with EK Success photo corner punch, layered this onto kraft cardstock note card. The stamped piece is on kraft cardstock, too.

Thursday Tutorial - Bunny Basket

I know, I know this is an Easter card but I thought you would like to see how I created a stencil using a border punch.  It's just another fun way to use a border punch.  I like to use my tools in as many ways as I can.  enjoy!

Bunny Basket
Project Skill Level: Intermediate

Supplies
Stamps
Easter #2 EZMount Stamp set (SI)

Paper
White, light olive green, pink cardstock

Inks
Ranger Archival Ink Jet Black
Ranger Big & Juicy Tutti Frutti

Accessories
Stipple brushes
Prisma color pencils – pink, burnt ochre, goldenrod
Krylon Gold leafing pen
Double stick tape permanent & removable
Ranger Pop It! mounting tape
Martha Stewart grass border punch
Instructions

1.Cut light olive green cardstock 4 x 8. Fold in half to form 4” square card.

2.Punch out grass border on a piece of scrap paper to form a stencil to create background.

3.Place cut out grass stencil on a piece of 3 ½” square white card with removable double sided tape.

4.Stipple green ink from Big & Juicy Tutti Frutti ink pad over grass stencil.

5.Move grass stencil under the green section and stipple with pink ink from same ink pad.

6.Repeat this process of moving stencil and stippling color till the 3 ½” card is fully colored with the grass sections.

7.Stamp bunny in the basket with Archival ink Jet Black on the left side of grass stenciled card.

8.Color in bunny ears with Prisma pink pencil, stripes on egg with goldenrod pencil and basket with burnt ochre Prisma color pencil.

9.Edge the stamped card with Krylon Gold leafing pen. Allow a couple of minutes to dry.

10.Layer stamped card with gold edge onto light olive green square card with double stick tape.

11.Stamp Easter saying with Jet Black ink on piece of same light olive green cardstock, layer onto a piece of pink cardstock and mount next to bunny with mounting tape.

Fun with Faerie Song

This trio of mermaids in a sea of pink and yes, it is more of a pink or maybe raspberry color is a bookmark that will probably be a little surprise for my husband who is an avid reader. The mermaids are colored with Prisma color pencils. The background is done with my old favorite tool the stipple brush.  Next is a little green faerie that just sparkles with gems on her wand & wings.  The ink also shines a bit because it is Brilliance ink.  All images are from Faerie Song Art Stamps ~ Fantasy Themed Images

This flower is from Dee Gruenig collection (SI) on the Vertical Inspiration Birds of Paradise set. It's just a sweet flower so I stamped it with Colorbox Fluid chalk ink pads to give it a soft look. Added a little color to the edge with my favorite tool .... the stipple brush .... a stamper's best friend. Mini brads in the corners .... can you believe I had the same purple mini brads as the ink! I do like my brads, any size or shape. I have bead containers full of them you know those containers you find in the bead section of the craft store. Enjoy!

Fuzzy Colors with a twist

I enjoy using my stipples brushes so I have them handy at all times. Stipple brushes come in all sizes and shapes from kids' versions to artist grade. I have them all! I can say it enough, "Stipple brushes are a stamper's best friend!" They are good for techniques like Fuzzy colors, adding a touch of color and best of all hiding smudges.

Now what I did different here from my normal Fuzzy Colors technique. I call this

FUZZY COLORS with a Twist!

Inks:
Ranger Adirondack Cranberry, Butterscotch & Lettuce
Staz-On Black

1. Stamp Eiffel Tower with Staz-On Black ink pad.
2. Create a mask by stamping tower on Post-It Note.
3. Place mask over stamped image.
4. Using a medium stipple brush add fuzzy color around the masked image with Adirondack Butterscotch ink to start. Add Adirondack Lettuce in other areas and last Adirondack Cranberry.
5. Leave some areas without color just for a little more depth in your project.
6. Remove Post-It note mask to reveal the Fuzzy Color effect.
7. Stamp Passport image on top of bookmark with Staz-On Black ink.
8. Cut out black cardstock approximately 1/2" bigger than stamped piece.
9. Punch out two corners with Paper Shaper corner punch.
10. Adhere all layers with double stick tape.
11. Punch out SU tab and adhere to top of bookmark.
