It is Friday in June so I'm here guest blogging for Blue Knight rubber stamps.  Today I would like to share with you a pretty spring image called Perfect Love.

card #1 stamps used:  Blue Knight Perfect Love stamp set

card #1 basic instructions:

1.  stamp images with black ink and allow to dry or speed dry with heat tool.

2.  add color with color pencils.

3.  add clouds with template in a couple of colors.

4.  adhere stamped layer to black layer then add both of those layers to yellow card.

card #2 basic instructions:

1.  stamp and heat emboss image 

2.  add color with watercolors.

3.  add clouds with template in a couple of colors.

4.  adhere stamped layer to black layer then to green card.

Dolphin cut away

More cut away cards!  If you go to this post you will see this same style card using a big butterfly.  The difference with this card is the cut away part is on the top of the card, where the butterfly card is on the bottom.  Back to the leaping dolphins ... this is another of the watercolor backgrounds I did last month with this same dolphin stamp.  The watercolor set is from the company Altenew, but anyone you have I'm sure would work.  For the piece that the cut away dolphin is mounted on, I used the cloud stencil from Blue Knight rubber stamp company.  Maybe one day I will do a video showing how I do the watercolor wash and use the cloud stencil.  Would that be interest to you for me to make a video? Dolphins

Blue Knight rubber stamps is a new company for me but, they have been around for awhile.  Living on the east coast I do like most things in or around the sea.  

For this card, I first did the background with a watercolor wash using Altenew watercolor set.  I haven't used it that much, so I do need some more practice with watercolors, but this was an easy background.  Basically I wet the watercolors, and my cardstock, then took a soft watercolor brush to swipe the color over the cardstock. After it dried, I used a cloud stencil from the above Blue Knight company, and made fluffly clouds over the watercolor wash background.  I do like the way the clouds came out ... what about you?  I overstamped the dolphin image with a very dark blue ink, then layered onto dark blue card.  I layered them onto an orange and a yellow A2 size card.

Trying my hand at watercoloring

I'm still not sold on watercoloring but I keep trying.  This is my attempt of watercoloring on one of my favorite Altenew Build-a-flower Anemone.  

I started out by embossing the outline of the Anemone with a couple of different embossing powders ... a gold and a white embossing powder.  My embossing powders are old but they still seem to work and I'm not a big fan of embossing so I will just use what I have for now.  I picked up the 36 set of Altenew watercolor pan set when it was on sale, so I would have lots of colors to play with on my cards.  I started by wetting the embossed flowers, then laying down a light wash of color to the full flower.  After that I just added a darker color to add shading ... not too sure I accomplished what I set out to do ...... but ..... it is what it is.  For the background I wet all around the card and just did a light wash again of color, then dropped darker color around the edge of the flowers.  

Well, that is my attempt of watercolor for now, I guess I need a lot more practice ... NO ... I know I need to go practice some more.

Watercolor to platform cards

This is a short and sweet post just to show off a couple of cards.

Got out my set of Altenew watercolors and did some basic watercoloring inside the squares of the Tartan stamp set.  The Altenew flowers were done with the Build a Flower: Anemone stamp set.  I made these cards into what I call Platform cards you can see more here, here, and in this post.  You can also go to the search box in the sidebar and type in platform cards to see more.

watercolor fun part #2

stamps used:  Unity stamp co.

inks used:  distress ink pads 

I call this post watercolor part #2 because on a previous post here I showed what I did with the die circle cut out piece (see above) using it as a mask.  So this is what I would call the waste product but when I looked at it I said ..... no way am I throwing these pieces out!  here are the results of the cards I used with the cut out pieces.  I do like layers so I die cut out a lavender piece of cardstock with the circle die.  adhered it to watercolor piece and added it to a white note card.

watercolor fun

stamps used:  Unity stamps ...every single day stamp set

inks used:  distress tumbled glass, salty ocean, wilted violet - VersaFine Clair Nocturne (black)

This started out as a one layer card but knowing me as I do ... I just couldn't leave it that way. Just seemed not finished so I made it into what I call Platform cards.  you can see details for Platform cards here.  

Back to these two cards:

platform base - 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" 

card base - 8" x 5 1/4" folded in half

To create the watercolor background I die cut a circle ... saving the die cut circle for another project.  we will be using the reverse mask.

1.  On a craft sheet press the three colors of distress ink onto it then spritz with water.  

2.  place the reverse mask on the front of the folded card then press into the watered distress inks.

3.  remove mask to see what I like to call a watercolor splat.  allow to air dry or heat with heat tool.

4.  stamp image over watercolor splat with black ink.  

5.  stamp sentiment in the bottom corner of card.

6.  adhere folded card to platform base.

Art journal adventure wk#26 Mystery

week #26 theme is Mystery!

whenever I hear the theme mystery ... I go directly to my drawer full of Bart's Ink stamps! Unfortunately, they are no longer in business so can't get new ones but I do own a few.  I am working a small journal so stamping directly is not possible sometimes and this is one of those times so ..... I stamped and did a little watercolor spot coloring on a separate piece of cardstock then fussy cut all the people.  the Baker street was stamped on grey cardstock and the caution was stamped on yellow cardstock.  if it was a bigger page there would be lots more but it was fun to bring these images back to life.

Art Journal week #25 random things

Week #25 prompt was an either/or idea so I took the "or" idea - pick random things 

I picked a random draw of stamps which turned out to be full of Stampscape images ..... and then I also just picked random things that were sitting out on my table ..... peerless watercolors and mica watercolors.  I went to town and made a simple watercolor background which turned out to look quite stormy ... but ... that worked out great with the stamps I grabbed out of my draw..... so here is my finished page ..... stormy night.

Galaxy fun

Had fun making all these galaxy backgrounds using Peerless watercolors that I've had in my stash for years...many years! and they work beautifully.  with the top two backgrounds I used Peerless watercolors which you will see in video at the bottom of this post or in my Sue Wisniewski - YouTube channel.  for the white stars I just dotted the background with different white gel pens.  the samples at the bottom of the photo I used another product I found in my stash that I've had again for many, many years.....the splotches are MicaColor pigment watercolor paints.  Just keep in mind you can use any watercolors or even re-inkers you have in your stash for this technique.

here are a couple more tags.  I had some left-over shaving cream background so I cut it down to a tag size then stamped a lighthouse and saying on it...I did a little ink blending to finish it off.  for the second tag I did a wash of color with the clean zig pens...let it dry completely...stamped the pears and word to finish this tag.  easy but I think they still have dramatic effects.

quick watercolor postcards

 Today I'm showcasing these fun, quick and easy watercoloring postcards that I did at the crop I was attending earlier this month.  actually did these in between doing the cards I had prepped when I was tired of doing the cards.  to start off the ferris wheel postcard is done on watercolor paper and the other two were done on bristol board.  personally I like the movement more on the bristol board postcards.  basically what I did for these 3 postcards is I wet the papers first with water pen then added color and wet again.  let them dry then stamped images with archival black ink and colored in images with the same zig clean markers.  these pens make a nice water color effect in the background but I think I need to practice some more.

fun with tags and more!

Check out these three tags that I water colored, added stencils and a couple of stamps.  I like the way they came out.  first I colored a 9 x 12 sheet of watercolor paper with Peerless water color strips that I've had in my stash for at least ten years and never used!  Found them recently so decided to USE IT!  basically I did a wash over the water color paper, let it dry.  next I spritzed it with Perfect Pearls mists, let that dry.  got out a geometric circle stencils and did the bump technique which is doing two colors but you "bump" (move it over a little) the stencil for the second color.  second stencil is a skyline and I really like it!  there is a solid image and an outline of the skyline which fits over the solid image perfectly!  added a little stamping and I'm done.
