Loads of layers Mixed Media

 Loads of layers Mixed Media

More on Loads of layers for Jennifer Rzasa #altenewchallengelive Tuesday challenge for Altenew.

For my tags and cards I did mixed media techniques.  So I collaged different pattern papers, rub ons, added little paper elements, ribbons, stickle glitter paints, texture pastes, enamel dots/self sticking gems, and layers of cardstocks.  Oh yes, the main layer with all the mixed media techniques are playing cards!

Yes, the tags have regular size playing cards, and the cards have jumbo size playing cards. I haven't altered playing cards for at least a year ... I forgot how much fun it is to alter playing cards.

Seashore

 Seashore

Just wanted to do some mixed media on this card.

stamps/embossing folders/dies used:  SU Sea of Textures stamp/die set, SU Seashell 3D EF, Unity sending hugs die

Started by running seashell 3D embossing folder through my Big Kick (any machine would work) with a white card.  Inked the edge a little with some blue ink, just so it would stand out more.  Had strips of pattern paper, so why not add them.  Die cut the net with vellum ... dotted the vellum piece with glue, and added to card.  Next die cut the octopus with gold cardstock, and mounted him with foam mounting tape to card over vellum net.  The die cut sending hugs was layered onto scrap of vellum, then fussy cut.  Adhered this piece to top folded white A2 card.

Mixed Media Morsel altered playing card

Mixed Media Morsel Altered playing card

The last one of the year!  Yes, I made it through a whole year making these MMM altered playing cards.

For this one I stamped the pocket watch (old stamp on wood), which I placed into the corner angled pocket.  See the theme here ... time and pockets.  I found some old blue denim looking "fabric" paper, so I used it for the background, and the pocket.

I enjoyed doing this mixed media project all year.

Mixed Media Morsels #11

 Mixed Media Morsels #11

Happy New Year's Eve!

Ringing in the new year with another MMM altered playing card. One more to go, then this year challenge will be over.

Catching up with MMM (mixed media morsels) altered card challenge. This one is for November 2022.  I found two doors in my collection of rubber stamps, so I got them out.  Painted with fingers around the edge of the door.  This altered card is very simple, but I finally got it done ... and am all caught up now.  There is only one more month to go.  When the hostess puts up the prompts I will get it done.

Mixed Media Morsels #10

Mixed Media Morsels #10

As usual I'm late in showing my MMM (mixed media morsels) playing card. This one is for October ... you can click on picture to see all the details.  I did go a little crazy with the splatters.  I splattered some perfect pearls spray, white paint, and wink of stella pens.  Did have fun with the whimsical bugs! The big ART is from a package ... don't remember what it was, but it's from a package.  So it counts. teehee Hope you like it.

Mixed Media Morsels #6

 Mixed Media Morsels #6

Hard to believe we are half way through these altered playing cards.  This month was easy because, I went into my stash of gel plate prints that I die cut.  The little shells are from a Stampin' Up stamp set.  I stamped and fussy cut the little seashells then, added a little color with a marker.  The seashell is adhered to the tab, which has texture from an embossing folder ... as is the background piece.

See you here next month for another MMM altered playing card.

Thanks for stopping by and come back again soon.

Mixed Media Morsels Altered Playing cards/Tea dyeing papers

Mixed Media Morsels Altered Playing cards/Tea dyeing papers

I belong to this group on facebook where we are doing altered playing cards ... mixed media style.  It's a year challenge where the hostess gives us prompts for the card.  Also we were challenged to create a book to hold our cards.  Here is Cat Hand you tube channel if you would like to check it out.

For my book I created a book with folded pockets, and 3 hole pamphlet stitch signature.

I decided to print out my prompts, so it would look more professional ... and ... neater.  For this first card I went a little crazy, and used all the prompts.  Can you pick them all out?  I used some of my tea dyed papers.
Tea dying is easy just brew some tea bags in a shallow pan with boiling water, and about a 1/2 tsp of baking soda.

Place papers in solution, and let them soak anywhere from 45 minutes to a couple of hours.  The above paper were soaked for about an hour.

Didn't have enough room on table to lay out all the papers/tags so I hung them up on clothesline down the cellar.  Where there is a will there is a way!

Mixed media masterboards

Mixed media masterboards

This is somewhat of what I would call a throwback ... what I mean is years ago I did what I called stamp collage.  Basically that is where I took an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of cardstock and just randomly stamp images all over it.  Next I would cut it up and make cards, postcards or whatever.  You can see here from 2009 and here with a video.

Mixed media masterboards are basically the same idea, just instead of stamping you glue papers of all kinds.  I used collage papers, tissue paper and even old book pages.  After I was done, and it was all dried I cut them into postcards and tags.

Thank you for stopping by and come back again soon.

Mixed Media w/Friends #1

 Mixed Media w/Friends #1

This idea started when a friend saw someone do this on her you tube channel ...tellHimthanku ... where she is doing mixed media on a jumbo pack of playing cards.  So my friend suggested we do it our way ... so let's get started!

Here is a look at the playing cards we are using:

We bought them at the Dollar Tree store in the toys section.  There are different themes but it doesn't matter the pictures on the cards because we will be doing mixed media techniques on them.
Definition of mixed media is In visual art, mixed media describes artwork in which more than one medium or material has been employed. Assemblages and collages are two common examples of art using different media that will make use of different materials including cloth, paper, wood and found objects.

Here is a look at my first playing card:

this is my card - all supplies and stamps listed on the back of the card.

With that being said basically anything goes with mixed media.  For my first playing card I kept it simple, gluing white tissue paper on the card to start and, then went from there. Added some ripped decorative paper, die cut bird/branch, self sticking gems and of course a stamped saying.  We decided to list supplies and stamps on the back for a reference.

card with bottle is by JAGS

We plan on doing this until we get bored with creating these little works of art.  I have't decided, yet how I will store these cards but I'm sure I will find some type of notebook that will work.

monthly (sept.) ATC

stamps used:  Unity stamp co.
The purple atc is what I call mixed media.
1.  mixed black acrylic paint with chunky silver glitter then dabbed it through a stencil.
2.  mixed gold re-inker with texture paste and spread a thin layer through a stencil.
3.  stamped writing image with black ink then embossed with clear powder.  repeated same with flower image.
4.  blended the atc with distress wilted violet ink.
5.  stamped "smile" onto white cardstock then punched it out and mounted with foam mount tape on atc.
Green atc
1.  laid ordinary string in green and orange paints then dragged on atc.
2.  stamped saying with black ink.
3.  adhered rick-rack ribbon on atc.
4.  added a clear gem.
5.  layered onto green cardstock to complete atc.
hope you enjoyed this short tutorial on how I created these two atc's.

Mixed media

stamps used:  Unity stamp co.

All this week at Unity one of their designers named Jolande from the Netherlands has been visiting.  That means week long lives on facebook and even Instagram this time.  Jolande designs some wonderful mixed media style stamps to use for cards, tags and more.  I created these two cards using a couple of her techniques but I had to improvise with some of the products, naturally because I don't have them.  She is using this week products from Candece a company in the Netherlands that she brought with her so needless to say, I improvised with products I have here.
I started with a TH gears stencil ... now she used a product that she kept saying had a sandy texture so I  got out some black acrylic paint and mixed in some chunky silver glitter I had on hand.  I took this mixture and dabbed it through my stencil with my finger, like she did so you would have more texture.  Next she used some kind of colored wax so I got out my clear texture paste and mixed in some gold re-inker.  This time you use a baby wipe to spread the mixture through the stencil.  Let this all dry or use a heat tool to dry.  After the black section is dry you are supposed to dab spots of white paint, well, I did this but for some reason after my white paint was dry ..... it turned purple!  guess it was a reaction to the silver glitter mixed in the black paint.  Oh well, I went with it as you will see in the pic.  Next step is to over stamp the card with images and heat emboss, so I did.  Then she distress her project with browns but with my purple showing through I didn't think that would work for me, so I used purple distress inks.  Last you stamp and cut out (I punched out) the saying and mount to card.  O.K. done!  what do you think?
