Pastel perfection

 Pastel perfection

This week for #Altenewchallengelive with Jen Rzasa the theme is Pastel perfection.

The pastel perfection on all these cards/tag are Pebbles pearlescent chalks in the background. Basically what I did was burnish the chalks with cotton balls on white cardstock.

The two cards below are what I call the Faux grid technique.  You can see more on this technique here, and here with a video.

supplies:   Altenew and Pebbles pearlescent chalks
These chalks can possibly rub off a bit, so I took them outside and sprayed them with a Fixative spray.

Faux Grid cards with video

 Faux Grid cards

This is another fun way to create grid, or Retiform cards.  I wanted to mention, that after I made all my Faux grid cards with the chalks, I sprayed them with a Fixative.  The Fixative just sets the chalks so they don't rub off.  Spray them outside, or in a well ventilated area.

Please, scroll down after you look at the card photos to watch my video.

stamps used:  Unity stamp co. Something Magical, Shine Out of Darkness, Time to Refresh, Sakura

Here is my video that you can watch here or on my you tube channel.

Feel free to type faux grid in the search section in the side bar to see grid cards I did in the past.

Bald Eagles

 Bald Eagles

Back for another guest blogging for Blue Knight stamp company.  Today I am featuring Bald Eagle and best part of using this stamp set is it reminds me of my father.  One day he asked if I had any eagle stamps because he liked them, and he wanted to learn how to stamp them on his checks.  He said if people could have cute puppies and cats printed on their checks ..... he could have eagles!  So after that every time I saw an eagle stamp I would get it for him.

card #1 stamp used:  Blue Knight Bald Eagle stamp set

card #1 basic instructions:

1.  stamp eagle with black ink and allow to dry. speed dry with heat tool if desired.

2.  add color to eagle with Pebbles pearlescent chalks.

tip:  any chalks can be used

3.  using the same chalks add clouds with template.

4.  take card outside and spray with Fixative to set the chalks.

5.  add stamped layer to black layer then to blue card.

card #2

card #2 basic instructions:

1.  stamp eagle with black ink.  allow ink to dry or speed dry with heat tool.

2.  add color to eagle with color pencils.

3. create a mask and place mask over eagle image.

4.  blend color around eagle to highlight him.

5.  remove mask to reveal the eagle and the highlighted color around him.

6.  layer stamped layer onto black layer then on to light aqua card.

bleach stamping with video

 BLEACH STAMPING
(see video below)

stamps used:  Unity stamp co.

Above are bleached card fronts.
Bleaching is an old technique, it's fun to bring back the old and make it new.
Spot or Select bleaching:
1.  stamp open line stamp image.
2.  with a Q-tip paint in bleach.
3.  allow to air dry.

stamps used:  ASITH

Bleach stamping:
1.  create a bleach ink pad:  folded paper towel with sponge under paper towel to hold the bleach.
2.  press solid image stamping into bleach ink pad.
3.  stamp onto cardstock and hold for 10 to 15 seconds.
4.  remove stamp to reveal the bleached image.
5.  leave as straight bleach or color with chalks.

Watch video here in this post or at my you-tube channel.

See more post of mine doing the bleach technique here from 2011, another here more recenthere and this post way back in 2009.  That's enough for now ... if you want to see more you can type bleach in the search bar.
Thank you for watching.  comments always welcomed.  come back again soon.

chalk resist with video

CHALK RESIST

An old technique brought back to life.  I learned this technique years and year ago, in fact I think it was called Popping Pastels back in the day.
stamps used:  SU Sea of Textures
stamp used:  Unity stamp co. Friendship Blooms

This chalk resist technique lends itself to medium to dark color cardstocks.  I've tried it on lighter and kraft but didn't have good results.....could be the chalks I am using so try it with what you have in your stash.
TIP:  before making these card fronts into cards take them outside and spray them with a Workable Fixative.  The fixative protects pencil, pastel and chalk from smudging.

You can watch this video in this post or over at my you tube channel.

Art journal week #40 Triangles and #41 Halloween

wk #40 (left side) Triangles
stamp used:  Just For Fun faux post cube
Stamped the triangle side three times to create a fun tree.  drew in a tree trunk, added some color with Pebbles chalks.  Oh, yes also drew a snow hill at the bottom of each of the trees and sponged on some more of the chalks.  easy peasy!
wk #41 (right side) Halloween
stamps used:  Just For Fun
stamped the spider web with grey ink down the page making sure to connect each one.  spiders were stamped with black ink along with "Beware"...Happy Halloween was stamped with grey ink.  The coffin was stamped on brown cardstock then fussy cut ..... stamped the bones hand on white cardstock and fussy cut them, then glued them inside the coffin.  glued the coffin with bones hands on the journal page.  got out a blending tool and added some dark spooky color along the page to finish it off.
