Shoebox swap

I did a shoebox swap with a bunch of friends. Shoebox swap is where you prepare a card for as many participants that are playing. Another words if 6 are in the swap you prep supplies for six cards and place everything into a shoebox then pass the shoeboxes around and everyone makes one card out of each box. In the pictures here are the six cards I made from our shoebox swap. What fun!

I am so lucky to be published in Scrap&Stamp Arts June 2009 issue and to have three pages. I was at craft store yesterday and saw the magazine there and couldn't resist picking up the magazine and flipping to the pages. What a kick to see yourself on the pages of a magazine! Check it out if you get a chance. All images used in article by Faerie Song Rubber art stamps.

Mixed Media Mon.-Mermaids

Mixed Media challenge http://mixedmediamonday.wordpress.com/ this week is Mermaid. This Mermaid is by Lasting Impressions with Panache. Background is marbling with shaving cream: spread out foam shaving cream in a flat pan, squirt a few drops of ink then with a toothpick swirl it around to create a design. After design is done gently place a piece of cardstock on top of it then remove the card from the shaving cream mixture. Wipe off excess shaving cream to reveal your background. Stamp on top of background with black ink and add color with prisma color pencils.

Guilt free Ice-cream cone

Here is what should have been an easy card to create but for some reason it wasn't ..... at least for me. Took many tries to find a background I liked for the ice-cream cone to sit on top. Tried plain background, pattern papers then last I stamped & added extra texture with Cuttlebug embossing folder. Brown/pink card is with textured embossing folder. Green card is with just stamped background.
To make the cone I first used Tiny Mosaic Cuttlebug embossing folder to create a waffle cone. I preferred the backside of the embossed card for a more realistic looking sugar cone that I remembered from my childhood. With a sponge add dark highlights to the cone. For the ice-cream scoops I used 2" Paper Shaper scallop circle & 1 1/2" Paper Shaper scallop circle. Cherry is 5/8" Paper Shaper circle. For the cherry stem on the green card I just free cut it.
Background: Stamped small checkerboard (moon rose art stamps) & swirl (ASITH) along the border of the card. Used Swirl Cuttlebug embossing folder to give it more dimension.....more life to the card.
To assemble: Tape the ice-cream scoops with double stick tape then tape to background card. Mounted the cone with foam mounting tape. Added saying with double stick tape. Taped finished ice-cream cone card to card with double stick tape.

Fun Masking!

Fun with Masking!

Finished teaching my creative cards class at my local Adult Education. Here are just a few pictures. What fun we had stamping together! In this class I was showing everyone how to mask images.

Once you master the art of masking an image you can really make your scenes on your card pop!

With just a few tools like Adirondack ink pads (really like the colors), Post-It sticky notes, stipple brushes (a stamper's best friend) and of course stamps you can have fun creating cards by masking.

Basic Masking technique:

Masking is a term which means "to cover". In the world of stamping it is used to bring images to the forefront by covering the main (foreground) image with a mask, and then stamping over it with another (background) image. This technique is easy, fun and very useful.
