This is a technique I saw done by Jennifer McGuire years ago, but she is bringing it back ... so I decided to do some of these cards, too.

Basically what you do is die cut a lot of flowers or whatever image you would like to use for this technique.  Cut a card base with a flap on top that is 1/4" to 1/2".  I like to do the Glad Press and Seal technique.  What Jennifer McGuire did new is use one of the self sticky mats to hold the flowers. Either way the cards come out beautifully.

Floating frames

Floating frame cards

stamps used:  Altenew stamps

I began by stamping and die-cutting  images from Altenew  Build-A-Flower Anemone stamp set.  I arranged them close together on a piece of 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" cardstock. They are not adhered to the cardstock - just laying freely on top of it. Next, carefully lay a piece of Glad Press 'n Seal (available at most grocery stores) over the images to hold them in place. Trim the edges even with the edge of the cardstock. I used a  circle or a rectangle die to cut out the center. Now it's time to remove the white cardstock piece. The Press 'n Seal stays adhered to the die-cuts, you are only removing the cardstock backing. With the die cuts still held in place by the Press 'n Seal add foam mounting tape to the back of all the die cut images. This will make the die-cuts "float" on the finished card. Here's my frame attached to the card front using foam mounting tape.  After you have the frame stuck down, it's time to carefully pull off the Press 'n Seal.  Next I stamped a saying in the center of the frames.

 With the leftover center I was able to create a second card using the same method which I will show in another post very soon.

Interactive cards are one of my favorite style cards to create and this one is no exception.  It is an easy peasy card to create.  I saw this idea at Jennifer McGuire's blog where you can see her video.

1.  card base is 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 folded in half to form note card.

2.  white layer is 3 3/4 x 5.  

3.  cover layer is 2 3/4 x 5 1/8 with two other layers 1/8" smaller.  set aside till ready to assemble.

4.  pull tab is approx. 5 1/4 x 1 1/2.  this can be adjusted to fit any size card.

5.  I used a die cut to make an opening on the 3 3/4 x 5 layer for the stamped image to slide across the card.

6.  to assemble card make a channel along side the opening with strips of foam mounting tape. this just keeps everything in place on the card.

7.  stick small dots of mounting tape on the pull tape behind the opening and tape a circle die cut to it.

8.  place a strip of foam mount tape on the bottom only of the cover layer and mount to card.

9.  tape stamped image to circle die and watch it slide when you pull the tab.  

Big inky reference tags

I sent a total of 16 BIG inky reference tags to my S-I-L as a surprise.  She has recently discovered stamping inks, sprays and more when she visited me.  It was great to show her how to use all my stash and I have quite a stash.  lol!  she was like a sponge and couldn't get enough of all of it.  I taught a series of inky technique classes on BIG tags, so at each class I explained and demo-ed the techniques on a BIG tag which are for reference with instructions on the back of the tags.  I collected all the tags I created at the classes and put them together for my S-I-L.  unfortunately we live too far away from each other to play together so I thought this would be a fun surprise for her.....along with the tags in the package I sent her a box of one of her favorite teas that only come out at holiday time....sugar cookie tea.  that tea is a bit sweet for me but she likes it.  I knew I was going to do this for months but it works out that over on Jennifer McGuire Ink blog she is doing

 so I'm entering this in the challenge.

Cards for Background Check day 3 design break

The parakeet card is a suspension card....the parakeet is stamped on circle with clear thread taped to card so when you twist it up ..... then open the card it spins around.  this is one of the backgrounds from day 2 of Background Check class by Jennifer McGuire Ink.  A fun technique where you stamp an image with dye ink on glossy card...let dry....overstamp it with VersaMark...let it dry...color over all the stamping with darker dye ink.  clear as mud, right?
Second card has a masked off moon and horizon then blend distress ink with blending tool.  next over stamped with black ink and colored in the pirate ship with Prisma color pencils.

In the trees

This card has a lot of ink but only one stamp ......do you see it?  the bird landing on the horizon.  did use a couple of stencils and that birch trees die.  did a trick I saw on Jennifer McGuire blog where you die cut a delicate die and glue four of them together to make them stronger so that is what I did on this card.  Also used a lot of post it notes to create the moon, hills and horizon then added some self sticking gems.  I think this would make a good masculine card or winter card...what do you think?

Sending love...or Winter Wonderland

a little early for Valentines then maybe an anniversary card or just a thinking of you winter card.  what do you think?  Both cards feature cover to cover Impression Obsession Rubber Stamps which I do like because you can stamp...use all of it or part of it as you can see with my card on the right.  My card with birch trees makes me think of a winter wonderland...the bare trees with the snow falling in the distance.  My chevron card was inspired by Jennifer McGuire  ...she has lots of good ideas that I have used in the past which I learned in a class she taught a couple of years ago. Also did one of my favorite technique cutting out a banner.  hope you enjoy these cards.

Just a card

Here is a card I made with left over pieces on my table.  Background is an embossed piece of cream card stock next added a couple of strips of May Arts sheer ribbon that was laying around.  You might remember last year I took a class with Jennifer McGuire using Hero Arts stamps and lots of inks well.......the die cut piece is one of the Distress stains I did here at home after the class and never used in a card till now.  The oval piece is stamped with Rogue Redhead Designs fashion ladies and colored in with Prisma color pencils.  that's it....enjoy!

I told you I would be showing more of my collage stamping cards so here they are for you to see and leave comments letting me know your opinion. 

Are you seeing double when you look at card on the left? yes, you should be because I have the smaller version of the Fred Mullet fish that I stamped over my friend's house.  You must be tired of hearing me say my friend's house by now.  Anyway my little fish was stamped with VersaMark ink then multi colored with Ranger Ink Adirondack embossing powders to match the inks stamped on the card.  Some ginger ep and wild plum ep with gold ep (embossing powder) on the top fin of fish.  Used Tim Holtz  Sizzix alterations on the edge brackets/parentheses die for that extra touch of waves....yes, purple waves....artistic license.

Card on the right is one of my favorites of the cards I've made so far.  I did add some sequence waste(see previous post for pic) stencilling to the left side for added dimension.  you know that plastic stuff with lots of holes.  Added May Arts wide black silk ribbon around the card...just love their silks.  Last card to show you today is a shaped card which I learned in class with JENNIFERMCGUIREINK. To create this type of shape card all you do is cut out two shapes and on one of the cards you score a line about an inch away from the top. Tape the unscored card on top of the scored card and viola! a shaped card.  Used Nestabilities Labels Eight set for this card.  Also did another technique I learned in Jennifer's class where you use Ranger Ink blending tools to add color to a cut out image in this case the PSX shell.  Fast and easy way to add color quickly. Two May Arts ribbons on this card....first a silk (just got to love silk) one underneath that fun black fishnet looking ribbon.  The base card is copper, hope you can see it in scan. In person it is very shiney just like copper.  When I get more cards done I'll do more collage stamping show and tell.

Been waiting a long time for the last two cards from Jennifer McGuire Ink class haven't you.  better late than never.  First off a reminder all cards are Jenifer McGuire designs and images are from Hero Arts .  The card on the left is stamped and embossed then colored with Gelatos which to me are like a creamy crayon.  Card on the right was our homework card.  I colored in the image with H2o's (sorry for colors only had greens and oranges) then stamped around the edge of the image with background stamp.  added some distress inks along the edges, taped it to orange notecard stamped with same background then stamped saying to finish card.

Resist and Fingerpainting

Back to regular scheduled program.  Got distracted with other cards for a while but here are two more cards I did in Jennifer McGuire class back in May.  The one on the right is a resist technique with a little twist that will be explained in another post.  The next card has a white embossed flower then to do the color we fingerpainted.  Yes, we got our fingers all full of ink.  What fun it was just like being back in kindergarten.  Just a reminder all the images are by Hero Arts and all the inks by Ranger Ink. 

Faux bleach & Distress Stains

Here are two more cards I did in Jennifer McGuire class last month.  What we did on brown card was to ink up the card doing the DTP (direct to paper) technique with Ranger Ink Distress pad, think I used vintage photo.  Anyway DTP just means taking the ink pad directly to the card and rubbing on ink color.  For the faux bleach technique (full details can be found on Tim Holtz blog) you spritz your stamp with water then press it to inked card, hold it there for a good 10 to 15 seconds to let the water sink into card then remove stamp and viola!  I have found with this techniqe the more ink and darker the better results.  Add buttons to inside of flower cut outs then mount to card, add saying and you are done.  The shape card is one of my favorites for two reasons first it's a shape .... second got to use Ranger Ink Distress Stains.  I am liking the Distress stains!  Instead of ink pads we inked up the stamp with Distress Stains then spritz with water and pressed the stamp to watercolor paper that was die cut.  Easy!  and I like the effect.  All images are from  Hero Arts.

Once I have posted all my cards I created in class I plan to do a inspired by Jennifer McGuire cards....you know show her card then one I would do with new cards I am going to create.

cards 3 and 4

 Here are two more cards I made in class with Jennifer McGuire, remember these are her designs.
For both of these cards we used Faber Castell markers to color directly on stamp then print onto pattern paper then onto white cardstock.  We were supposed to do second generation stamping on white cardstock but it was just to light for me so I overstamped it using the Fiskar stamp press.  Another thing I did a little different is with the scallop edge card we were supposed to cut both the front and back of card to make it thinner......well......I just cut off some of the cardstock from the front of the card and left the back the size it was because I liked it better that way.

Took these pictures of heart cut out cards with my camera so you can see the hearts.  See how the small heart is glued to the backside of the vellum and the big heart is taped to the inside of the card.  Can't see things like that in scans.

Here are two of the cards I made in Jennifer McGuire class I took at buffalo stamps & stuff store a couple of weeks ago.  I'll post a couple cards at a time over the next couple of weeks.
What do these two cards have in common?  have you guessed?  the vellum banners across the card cut outs.  Because of the flower card I went out and bought a gidget gadget called the Compact Stamp0 Press by Fiskars.  It is just a fun tool to use with clear stamps to overstamp......so much easier than a stamp positioner.  Other reason I got it is you can use clear and cling mount stamps on it with ease.  It has these sponge type feet so you just push/press down and you get a perfect impression and of course it is clear so you can see thru it for perfect positioning.  O.K. back to the cards....the flower stamp was first stamped then used the stamp press to over stamp with background stamp in a light ink....too cool. 
Now onto the second card which using an embossing folder that is inked then run through Big Kick (or any machine you have) with cardstock and you get this great colored background with raised impression.  Stamp the two hearts, cut out...lightly glue small heart to vellum banner and large heart to the inside of card.   Just a reminder all the images are from Hero Arts because Jennifer is one of their designers.

 Had a lot of fun learning new and improved techniques at this class.  I was #50 at class....see the paddle....just like at an auction, not that I've ever been to an auction just what I see on T.V........fun thing with paddle was if you wanted a stamp or product that Jennifer was using in class all you had to do was hold up paddle and owner of store would get it and put it in a basket for you.
Here are two sisters from Rochester, NY that I sat next to in class.  They were a lot of fun.

Yes, I'm a goody two shoes and gave the teacher (Jennifer McGuire) an apple or in this case a stamped fabric bag with two stamped frames. It is easy to stamp on these bags just put a lightweight piece of cardboard inside then stamp with fabric ink pads or paints. For the frames stamp the same way. All images used are from Hero Arts.

Fun at class

I took a class with Jennifer McGuire of Hero Arts at Welcome - Buffalo Stamps and Stuff last weekend while visiting my father. Had a lot of fun in class and learned some great tips/twists on old techniques. See me with Jennifer! We did so many techniques in class that we didn't have time to put all the cards together....class even went over an hour. That was o.k. cause it gave me something to do in hotel at night......put together 9 cards...yes, 9 count them...well you will be able to count them in future posts. Jennifer even gave us a 10th card (we didn't have time to do in class) to take home to do because we ran out of time.
