CRAYON RESIST

Crayons have been around for years and so has this technique.  It's fun to bring back an old technique and see what we can do to update it.

Basic instructions:

1.  stamp image with permanent black ink.

2.  get out those old crayons and scribble the crayon inside the open space of the image.

tip 1. the cheaper the better because the cheap ones have more wax. 

tip 2.  use firm pressure so you get a lot of wax on the card.

3.  blend on some color with any dye inks.  you can use any blending tool you prefer even a brayer.

4.  after you have put down all the color you want, then rub off all the waxy crayon.  I had best results using a paper towel ... that's it!

tip 3.  the color crayon you use will give you different looks.  on the top butterfly I used a light pink crayon.  on the bottom butterflies I used yellow and white crayons.  on the top flower I used only a white crayon.  on the bottom flowers I used white and yellow crayons.

Stamp Create background and flower border images on glossy card stock with Staz-On Black ink pad and let it dry completely. After dry highlight areas with a white waxy crayon. Remember when you were a child and used to write names on Easter eggs with crayons then soak them in dye......and viola! The name would show up in white on the egg. This is the same idea.
Did Fuzzy Colors technique using Adirondack Citrus, Denim & Red Pepper for a colorful background. Fuzzy Colors is a technique using stipple brushes that I made up a several years ago. I wrote an article for Scrap & Stamp Arts, June 2007 on pages 48 & 49.

***To create Fuzzy Colors background:
Stipple colors onto a full sheet of 8 ½ x 11 cardstock, this way you can cut it up when done to make up to four cards.
Any ink will work, whether it be dye, chalk or pigment. This technique can be done on any light color cardstock.

1. Pounce your colors first with small to medium size stipple brushes to achieve the fuzzy looking color; then apply the last color using a large stipple brush and a swirling motion.

2. Using a large stipple brush and a swirling motion with a color like mustard gives a nice glow or vintage effect.***

Buff card with paper towel to reveal the magic.
Punch two 1/8” holes above flower border. Thread ribbon through holes and wrap around card. Secure to back of card with tape.
Using double stick tape attach stamped card to black (4x5 1/4”)card then to salmon note card.
