Storm Sandy

I'm back online since storm Sandy hit the northeast.  Here's a recap of how Sandy affected us.  Monday 10/29/12 tree fell on wires next door at 5:30 p.m.  ripped siding off their house- sparks flew by our kitch window.
We lost power Monday 10/29 at midnight.  that meant no electricity, cable or phones.

Thursday November 1st transformer blew on High St. - it fell onto the thruway! when it blew it made a loud boom sound...very scary.  This happened around 11 a.m.  we can see the thruway from our backyard...couldn't see where exactly it fell because of course the emergency crews wouldn't let anyone near it....that's a good thing.  From my backyard I could see the police re-routing the cars and big tractor trailers on the thruway this meant they had to do a U-turn on the thruway to exit the thruway.  It was surreal seeing cars and trucks going the wrong way on the thruway.  The thruway was closed for was closed for a few hours while the emergency crews did their thing.  Because of this problem they shut off our gas! so now we have no power, no phones, no cable and no gas....no hot water!  Oh well, that's life.  next a firetruck came down our little dead end street to hook up to our fire hydrant for more water to stop the fire from the blown transformer.  While all this was going on chopper 8 helicoper was hoovering overhead.  Needless to say we decided to drive to our S-I-L house a few cities away to stay the night so we could have heat and hot shower.  This is Thursday night.  went back home on Friday to find the gas back on...yeah!  Saturday came and went and still no power.  Sunday morning comes no power....but all of a sudden around 3:30 p.m. we have lights!  So all is good again in the world.

  3. Sue love your pics and story. Still no power here. I saw the trucks being turned around last year in Darien ... It really messes with you mind! Neen took a picture of 95 on Monday when it was closed due to storm .... Very strange to see NO traffic!

    1. I wish I had thought to do a little 2 minute silent movie of the trucks & cars doing the u-turn on the thruway. it's a day later hope you have power back.
