Color Pencils

I have always enjoyed coloring with Prisma Color pencils (my preference) but now that I have discovered how to use Gamsol it just makes the colors blend so beautifully.

Just look at these two cards I created with this technique.
I'm teaching a class in color pencils in July if you have ever wanted to learn how to color with color pencils please come to class if you can.

Collage stamping

Collage stamping is just a fun way to use different stamps & inks together plus make several cards at one time.
Stamps used: Jungle ATC set by Sunday International

COLLAGE STAMPING
by Sue Wisniewski
June 2009
Collage Stamping basic instructions:
1. Choose up to four colors of inks and images.
2. On a full sheet of (8 ½” x 11) cardstock, stamp first image with darkest ink all over the cardstock.
3. Repeat stamping other images using the remaining colors of inks that are chosen for project all over cardstock.
4. When finished stamping, cut the cardstock into squares, rectangles, strips or in any shapes.
5. Take your cut out pieces and create cards, bookmarks, covers for books or any project.
Tips:
Stamping first image with darkest color ink will allow that image to stand out from the crowd of images.
Stamp all images randomly on sheet of cardstock so when you cut up your cardstock after it is stamped you will have all the images on all your finished cards.
3. Fill the whole sheet of cardstock completely. Don't worry, it will look a little busy but once you cut your cardstock apart and layer, it will be fine.

Van Gogh contest by StarvingArtistamps

Here are my interpretations of Van Gogh technique in TJ magazine (at this time I do not subscribe) with the short description I got from StarvingArtistamps.
All images are from StarvingArtistamps except the cloud which is ASITH.
Basic instructions: 1. color image 2. add dots, dashes or any doodle details. 3. use white gel pen to make image pop or add contrasting colors.

I took these basic instructions and added my interpretation.
For the Robots lost in the city card:
1. on piece of white cardstock I colored it with Prisma color pencils. Did stripes & dots of colors then used gamsol to move the colors around. added lines with color pencils & Inkssentials white pen.
2. cut out city and taped to light blue cardstock that I stamped with clouds(brilliance white & gold ink) then stippled colors over clouds.
3. punched out circles of clouds, taped to blue scallop circle to create two moons.
4. stamped robots, colored with Prisma color pencils & blended colors with gamsol then added doodles with Inkssentials white pen. cut out & mounted to card.
5. stamped mailbox, colored same as robots and mounted to card. wrote USA Mail with Inkssentials white pen.

Dolphin Island card I took a little different approach to the technique.
1. on white cardstock scribbled watercolor crayons.
2. with aqua pen dotted water to loosen the colors.
3. dab dry with crumbled piece of paper towel.
4. stamped volcano & large palm tree with Staz-On black ink.
5. did some paper piecing on the large palm tree.
6. stamped dolphin on white cardstock and colored with Prisma color pencils and blended colors with gamsol.
7. mounted on card.
8. added extra color with Prisma pencils & Inkssentials white pen to volcano and waves in water.

Fun with stamps

Here is a fun card I made to send to my friend for driving me to convention. The stamps are all StarvingArtistamps and I just went crazy for them at Springfield convention.

Another stamp I purchased at convention was this adorable little girl from Stampland. As you can see I stamped her in 4 colors of Ranger Distress Inks: concord grape, mustard, broken china & peeled paint. She stamps up beautifully. The finished card is stamped with black ink then added background color with Ranger blending tool.

Fun at Springfield convention

I've had time to recoup from Springfield convention. This was the first time in 5 years I didn't demo/work at the convention so I was able to enjoy it with friends. We stayed all day until they started blinking the lights to get us out.
I spent the most time & money at Marco Papers because Susan Pickering Rothamel from ArtQuest was there demonstrating. She demoed anything she was asked from cloth to watercolors. I'm not associated with ArtQuest just like the products. Studio cloth is a cloth that you can cut, sew, paint and stamp on. It takes to inks, paint and glues. New Perfect Pigment acrylic paints were great, I mean you use it on fabric and it dries soft without having to add any fabric medium. New Mica Color watercolor wheel just shines on whatever surface you choose to use it on. I can't wait till I have time to play with all my goodies. Check out ArtQuest online to see everything I am talking about www.usartquest.com

Another company at Springfield convention

These cards are all from a company called Starving Artistamps that I just discovered at convention. These characters are cute but also a bit on the weird side which I like. I plan on having a lot of fun creating cards with these stamps.
