Funky Flowers with bleach

Bleach is not just for getting out stains in clothes. When it comes to stamping nothing around the house is safe. So get out the bleach!

FUNKY FLOWERS in bleach
March 2009
cards by Sue Wisniewski - Sunday International design team
Stamps:
Funky Flowers – Sunday International, Dee Gruenig
supplies:
household bleach
paper towels
3M double stick tape
ribbon
Homemade bleach ink pad - paper towel on plastic plate
Instructions:
1. Fold a piece of paper towel into fourths and place it on a plastic plate. Pour bleach onto this paper towel pad.
2. Place your stamp into your homemade bleach ink pad. Make sure you have a good coverage of bleach onto your stamp.
3. Print your stamp onto colored cardstock and hold the stamp on the cardstock for a full 15 seconds. Remove stamp and watch the how the bleach reacts to the cardstock.
4. For this card I stamped the Funky Flowers on four different colored cardstocks, red pepper, orange, moss green & dark purple.
5. Cut each stamped Funky Flower into a small rectangle and layer onto a piece of black (4 3/4”x6 3/4”) cardstock with double stick tape.
6. Make a hole in the middle of this layer, wrap ribbon around and thread both ends of ribbon in the hole to the front of layer. Tie the ribbon into a bow.
7. Tape Funky Flower bleached layer with bow to an orange greeting (5x7 folded) card.
Tips:
1. Do this in a well ventilated area.
2. Every color cardstock will react different.
3. Wash your stamp immediately after all your bleach stamping is complete. As long as you wash stamp after bleaching it will not harm your stamp.
Another sample card with just one Funky Rose

Alcohol splatter technique

Here are examples of Tim Holt's alcohol splatter technique. This reminds me of when I was a kid visiting Rye Beach amusement park. It is a little place but when you are 14 or so and never been to DisneyWorld it works for you. Anyway there is a booth there where you can do spin art. Remember doing that when you were a kid? Just plain fun!

Back to alcohol splatter technique.

Squirt out a couple of drops of alcohol ink at a time..........then get a can of compressed air ...... get the idea............ spray the air at and around the drops of alcohol ink and watch the fun! As easy as that!
Card with Cockatoo (sunday intn'l-dee gruenig) - stamped with Adirondack stream ink pad.
Ranger alcohol inks - lettuce & stream.
Bird ATC - bird/swirl (memory box), saying (verses rubber stamps)
Ranger alcohol inks - stream, butterscotch & wild plum --- wild colors but I think they work.
Alien ATC - alien (rubber stamps of america)
Ranger alcohol inks - butterscotch, stream & wild plum

Funky Black-eyed Suzan

What a fun folded card. This is called a z-fold card which just means it looks like a "z" when it is standing. Very simple to achieve this effect......take a note card that is folded and fold the front back onto itself so you are folding the front of the card in half.
I stamped these funky black-eyed suzan (Sunday Int'l, Dee Gruenig) flower with Lyra watercolor crayons. Quick and easy way to get a watercolor effect. Used the same technique to color and stamp the Happy (Sunday Int'l, Dee Gruenig) Birthday saying.
Basic instructions for using Lyra watercolor crayons:
Color directly onto stamp image with watercolor crayons. When all the color is on the image I spritzed it with water with a Ranger mini mister. I like the Ranger brand mister because it has a nice fine mist of water and not big drops. After the image it printed on cardstock zap it with heat tool to stop the watercolor effect. I like it to just spread out a little not too blurry looking and that is it.

Mystery ATC swap

I don't know about anybody else but I'm having so much fun receiving all these Fish (see 3/5/09 post) Mystery ATC's from an atc yahoo group I belong to. I'm hosting March Mystery ATC swap .... what that means is I stamped up a bunch of an image in this case SU fish then I sent them to all the participants. When they receive the image they color, cut or whatever they want then send to their partner. If they wanted they could send one to the hostess of the month and so far these are the ones I have received.
Credits from left to right: top row: Jessie Mae (two on top row), middle row: Shirl & Marge, bottom row: Kathy & Ravenz.
thank you!

Thursday challenges

Rainbow Lady Thursday challenge theme is Birthday.
Couldn't resist posting this fun ole (LIWP) lady birthday card I did last year. Just a fun image that I colored with Prisma color pencils. When you pull out the tab there is another Happy birthday saying.

Thursday Theme challenge is orange.
Stamped goldfish (LIWP) in black ink then masked it. Background color is done with baby wipe technique. Quick & easy background - add drops of re-inker on baby wipe then swipe it across card.

Theme Thursday

Yes, another challenge....guess I'm hooked on these challenges.
Theme Thursday this week is Flowers.
This flower is from Dee Gruenig collection (SI) on the Vertical Inspiration Birds of Paradise set. It's just a sweet flower so I stamped it with Colorbox Fluid chalk ink pads to give it a soft look. Added a little color to the edge with my favorite tool .... the stipple brush .... a stamper's best friend. Mini brads in the corners .... can you believe I had the same purple mini brads as the ink! I do like my brads, any size or shape. I have bead containers full of them you know those containers you find in the bead section of the craft store. Enjoy!
Please don't forget to check out what classes I'm teaching in my sidebar. Would like to have you come play in class.

Challenges

Lots to Do Saturday challenge this week is Masking.

http://lotstodocallenges.blogspot.com/

My card is using LIWP stamps. I did my Fuzzy Colors technique with a twist. Used Ranger Adirondack Cranberry & Butterscotch ink pads. First stamp wolf (LIWP) image with Staz-On black ink pad. Create a mask with a Post-It note. Mask the wolf then add color with stipples brushes doing Fuzzy Colors technique. Next stamp (LIWP) trees with same black ink randomly around the wolf. Remove mask and viola!

Ink on my Fingers - Sunday challenge
http://pinkleart.blogspot.com/
This is a card I had done the end of last year.
Swiped Ranger Paint Dabbers Butterscotch & Pearl .... I know it doesn't look like pearl it's my camera's interpretation of the colors.
Girl is clip art that I cut out and glued in the corner of the card then stamped sayings on vellum and stuck them on the card. The flower is a chipboard flower, don't remember the company. Painted the chipboard flower with Ranger Lettuce Crackle paint....fun paint. Added a fabric wrapped brad to finish it. Glued it to the top of the card.
Hope you like my entries.

Third - Bird for Theme Thursday challenge

Hey, is there a prize for using same project for variety of challenges? I've seen on other blogs where they used the same project for two but not three challenges.

Mystery ATC swap

Wanted to share my Mystery ATC for a swap in a yahoo group I belong to called ATCsAREUS. It's a small group of women who like to create ATC's of all types. A new swap idea was suggested to our group called Mystery ATC which was started a few months ago and this month March, I'm hosting. I just sent out this fun fish to all the participates and now what they do is cut, color or decorate him any way they want then send him out to their respective partners at the end of the month.

I of course, had to stamp extras for me to play with and this is just one ATC I did. He is stamped with basic black ink then colored with Pebbles Chalks to give him a nice soft glow.

Fun with die cuts

These are die cut door hangers and what I did is just some basic stamping on them using Sunday International stamps by Dee Gruenig. These are big and bold stamp images that are great for direct to stamp coloring. I used the big numbers with vertical sayings and Pirates on the other door hanger.

This is an envelope die cut that I made into an envelope note card which just means I added a card to the inside to use as writing surface. So it is an envelope & card in one. Used fun set of Scarecrow set from Dee Gruenig collection.
Just a couple of fun and easy ways to stamp on die cuts. Die cuts are available at most craft stores & stamp stores. Check them out and see what you can do with them. I sound like a commercial, don't mean to just enjoy the simplicity of the blank canvas sometimes.

class samples

I'm sitting here looking out the window and it's a winter wonderland!!! We must have at least 6" right now and it's still snowing. Hope it stops soon if it doesn't my class at Adult Education might be cancelled........hope not. Will just have to wait & see.

Here are a few samples of what we will be doing in class this Wednesday night.

First we will be coloring directly on (SU) stamps with Brush markers as you can see with the fruit card. Fun simple technique.

Next embossing always a must for any stamper but for first time stampers it is a Wow factor. Shown here is a gold embossed (Me & Carrie Lou) purse card with a glove that fits into the pocket on the inside of the card.

How about gold embossing a shoe (Me & Carrie Lou) image on black cardstock for another Wow factor.

OR painting with embossing powders on a cod (River City Rubber Works) fish to show multi-coloring.
I know we will have fun with all the embossing powders swimming along. Ha! ha! ha! couldn't resist. See you at class.
